already know i don't really like vectras but it's a decent sized estate car,   has a tow bar,  is more economical than Mv6 ,  and has sat nav….

worried by my total lack of knowledge about diseasels and the lack of service history …..

but i have the idea that i can also get a diseasel astra for the mrs….  (hopefully also with Cd70 etc )  she needs to learn to drive, and refuses to do so in cars the size of the omega or jag

henryd in Cornwall has 3.0CDTi Signum IIRC, as does Opti, so they may be able to comment on engine.  Taxi-Al has had some Vectra estates for Taxi work, so may be able to comment on that (but then the poor deranged fool likes Vectra-C's :P). CD70 is quite dated now, and not exactly feature packed, but its still newer and faster than the NCDC series you know and love. Plus TMC works ;D

If you're thinking Vectra, then this would be my local choice...

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201507295597254?page=1&channel=cars&postcode=ox107ny&sort=atcustom&onesearchad=used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew&body-type=estate&model=vectra&transmission=manual&make=vauxhall&radius=50&search-target=usedcars&fuel-type=petrol&logcode=p

Go national, and it would be this one...

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201507205339880?channel=cars&postcode=ox107ny&make=vauxhall&sort=priceasc&body-type=estate&model=vectra&search-target=usedcars&onesearchad=used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew&page=3&fuel-type=petrol&radius=1501&transmission=manual&logcode=p

Or...

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201508065838885?onesearchad=used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew&transmission=manual&channel=cars&fuel-type=petrol&make=vauxhall&sort=priceasc&search-target=usedcars&postcode=ox107ny&radius=1501&model=vectra&page=3&body-type=estate&logcode=p

Budget for a new radiator at 100k ish, £100 from Vauxhall, otherwise cheap and reliable imho as long as you avoid the 2.2 and all the diesels... 1.8 has no dmf and no dpf, and having run three as cabs, never missed a beat... managed just shy of 500,000 between them, and only servicing, discs and pads, plus one spring failure, a condenser rotting out and three radiators, all cracked on the passenger side end iirc. Fuel consumption should be 50% better than the Omega too.

If you get on well with local dealer, then servicing is less than £60 for oil, plugs and all filters. Cambelts are every 60k for the 120bhp one (full engine cover and alloy camcover) and 100k for the 140 vvti one (black camcover with plug well cover), and a piece of piss to work on, except the fuel filter, the rest can be done in forty miuntes, including a cuppa :y

nothing wrong with the 2.2 if you avoid shite supermarket fuel and yes Al the fuel is the problem...the 1.8 is under powered imo and will use more fuel than a 3 litre. The biggest problem with the Vectra and Signum is taking any corner with speed....well not so much a problem if you don't want to take it  as the damn will just plough straight on

The trip shows 25.9 MPG over 2300 miles at an average speed of 41 MPH.  :P :P :P

I reckon a 1965 Zodiac would have returned about 17 MPG over the same route. :P :P

........and the Zodiac wouldn't do 155 MPH and zero to sixty in less than seven seconds. :) :)

Economy is all relative dear boy. ;)

That means mainly motorway work.

I would have thought low thirties would have been obtainable. ;)

With the rear seats folded flat there is  far more load area in a Vectra estate when compared to a Signum.

I suppose it  depends how much luggage space you need.

That is a fair bit of weight.

How about a Vectra VXR estate?

They all seem to be blue. :y
