General Discussion Area / Images server
« on: 28 February 2024, 11:25:48 »
Our hosting provider is doing some work on our images server.  This serves static content like (guides) photos, logos, icons, smileys, and non visible stuff like CSS and javascript.

Its very likely this will cause some disruption to the site today and possibly overnight, resulting in corrupted pages, strange page layout, and the inability to post stuff.

We'll try to mitigate as much as possible by trying to serve some of that from the webserver instead, but expect issues.  We can not serve photos from the main webserver, so guides will be pictureless for a day or 2.

« on: 04 February 2024, 12:30:43 »
Free to good home, but collection only from Brackley.

2 sets of 286mm brake discs as fitted to early 2.0l petrol Omegas, and I think to some Senator and Carlton models.

Genuine GM, but been on the shelf for a few years.  PN: 90487103

General Car Chat / Age old question....
« on: 04 December 2023, 15:09:10 »
Perusing Autotrader, can't find anything that fits.

Large saloon
RWD
Auto
200+ BHP
£10kish for sub 10yr 100k miles example
40+ mpg capable day to day

I think my choices are:
BMW 7 Series - too many reliability issues, and struggle to fit in budget for a 100k mile example
Merc S class - a remotely acceptable one is 30+ years old.
Lexus (anything) - too narrow/cramped
Kia Stinger - could prove expensive as pattern parts and info hard to get
Infiniti - couldn't live with interior

Any other pearls of wisdom?

General Car Chat / Maybe that debris she idiotted did break it...
« on: 12 November 2023, 10:27:32 »
She got back a couple of weeks back saying she had hit some fallen debris quite hard during that storm, but we couldn't see any damage, and the car drove and braked as it should.  So forgot about it.

A few days ago it started making a loud banging noise when going to full lock.

So over to Gixer's in it, as with my neighbours in, I cant jack up the NS on mine, and he had a Veccy-C that needed some Tech2 love, and a new key programming to his car.

Obviously nothing could start until the ever lovely Mrs Gixer had sorted out some bacon, eggs, sausages and beanz, so the light was starting to go before we checked out the noise on Mrs TB's car.  Turned to full lock when stationary, and a loud bang from NSF.

Wheelarch liner is smashed in miltiple places, and dropped enough to just catch the thicker end of the boot over the end of the rack.

No sure whether to try to fibreglass it, or just bend over the dealer's bench for a £150 rogering.  Its partly bodged for now, but doubt it will last.

General Car Chat / Breakdown cover

Renewal is due soon, and the AA are taking the piss, rather predictably.  And I point blank refuse to use RAC, given the last 3 times I've called them in the last 30 years.

What are you boys and girls using?

General Discussion Area / UPS and UPS
« on: 27 September 2023, 09:38:44 »
Firstly, we've got a (hopefully) shagged battery on the UPS that supports the OOF servers, so running with battery disconnected, so fingers crossed that the usual Brakkers power cuts stay away today.

Got 2 parcels coming from UPS (the courier), both from The Netherlands.  One is an ebay seller who should have posted last week, but clearly ebay bone idleness kicked in, and other is from DJI who are normally quite slick.  Both parcels appear to have stopped tracking somewhere in Holland.
