Steering wheel buttons lose lights
« on: 26 September 2017, 06:37:30 »

If you change the stereo unit to something not standard it affects some parts of the electrical system.

For example the steering wheel buttons don't illuminates any more and that happens to the gear indicator too if you have an automatic.

Apparently there is some feed for this going back from the original radio unit to give those lights power.

Anyone who knows how this could be fixed and which cables are affected in this? I guess there needs to be some connection to be made between the after market radio unit and the car to make this work.

I got the CT20VX02 connector from Connect2.com, http://www.connects2.com/Product/ProductItem/CT20VX02

And as you can see it has one third connector that  I believe has the connection I need to get the lights working.

Thanks

I noticed today when I got the new stereo mounted that when the radio is on the button lights are also on. Haven't seen this on my other Omegas. Might be something to do with the original radio and its wiring.

And a decent stereo will have a dimmer so when the lights are turned on the radio lights dim  ;)

Omega wheel is always lit to normal backlighting, irrespective of lights setting.
