General Car Chat / Ouch MOT
« on: 22 October 2009, 17:57:29 »
Car went for its MOT today and failed on the exhaust. Took it to Kwik Fit and put it on the ramp. A bloody great hole in the mid section and the only way of fixing it is a new left and right mid sections. Total cost £377.00 including a new MOT test as the other place charge for a retest. Was able to get the MOT done free with Kwik Fit if they did the exhaust. Apparently their stockist don't carry parts for the 2.6  >:(.

General Car Chat / Senator
« on: 27 September 2009, 17:18:32 »
I am now the proud owner of a Vauxhall Senator 24v, yeehah  8-). It has 72000 miles on the clock and although it has been sitting around for awhile it came with a years MOT. Just drove it back from London, boy is it quick. A few problems with it, like the suspension mounts need replacing as there is a knocking noise underneath and a ABS sensor needs replacing which the person who sold it to me is sending one out for me to fit. Also some other minor faults like the rear window is not working and the rev counter sensor is kaput. I am hoping that all these are minor and i am taking the car of the road during winter and parking it up in the garage to get it fully fit. Have joined Autobahnstormers but still have my Omega so will be with this site for awhile to come. I am absolutely chuffed with it. Off now to get my bucket and sponge to give it a good clean and wax before it is stored. Good thing also, it has no rust.
Cheers :D

General Car Chat / What shall i do
« on: 25 August 2009, 09:20:31 »
Advice needed please. As some of you may be aware there was an ad placed in the cars for sale for a Mint Senator that needed to be sold by the end of the month. I have contacted the person selling it and he is going to scrap it if he is unable to sell it as he is getting another car. Now considering he is getting 2000.00 from the dealer for it he will drop it to 1900.00 for me. This car is probally the best Senator around and i will risk getting in trouble with the missus who can't see the point in getting another car. Is this price still far to expensive and am i letting my heart rule my head. Please help me make the correct decision :-/

« on: 26 August 2010, 21:39:33 »
Since the airshow was cancelled here last weekend the Vulcan has been parked up at our local Hurn airport in Bournemouth awaiting a crew to fly her.
It is now due to depart on Sunday between 9am and 10am. If anyone is around here then it will be well worth a visit.
Apparently the people who own the Vulcan are wanting to park it up at Hurn for the winter but Machester airports who own Hurn are not interested.

General Discussion Area / What is it worth??
« on: 18 May 2009, 12:01:54 »
Someone at work here has a 2001 2.6 CDX saloon in silver for sale. Automatic with Leather and Sunroof.Approx mileage is 95000. I asked if it has a full service history and he has said all the work has been done on it  but not sure if it has the book stamped. He comes across as not knowing much about cars and needs to sell it within two weeks.
Any idea how much it is worth with a full service history and without a service history.

General Discussion Area / Woodburners
« on: 20 March 2009, 14:06:47 »
Hello all hoping someone may be of assistance. I have sitting in my garage a Vermont Defiant woodburner which has seen better days and i am looking at repairing it. First of some bricks have broken on the inside with a metal runner along the top to hold the bricks in place. This should be easy enough to fix but at the back on the inside of the burner is like a honeycomb mesh and insulation material that has burn't thru, think it is a catalytic convertor. Does it need this and if so can i repair this myself or do i need to get someone out to fix it. This thing is bloody heavy :o so is not easily moved, that should be fun :P

General Discussion Area / Paint job
« on: 12 March 2009, 10:43:11 »
Ok what  advice can anyone give me regarding having a paint job on my car. I am having the bumpers resprayed and a small rust patch fixed up on the tailgate. I will be collecting the car on Friday and knowing it has been in a workshop i would like to give it a clean (subject to weather ::)). The thing is, is it advisable to wash new paintwork so soon after it has been done or should i give it some time curing before i give it a good clean :-/

General Discussion Area / Going to Austria
« on: 19 January 2009, 20:18:05 »
As above. The family are off to Salzburg then driving over to Vienna to stay with a couple of friends. Never driven a left hand drive in Europe :o. As well as it being manual(mine is auto) driving in the snow with the gearstick on the other side, should be an eye opener ::). Anyway has anyone stayed in Salzburg before and what places do they recommend. Hate churches and cathedrals, dislike shopping, can't stand Mozart, boy am i going to be bored. And can you smoke in the pubs :-/.

General Discussion Area / What has gone wrong????
« on: 14 December 2008, 20:36:51 »
Ok,
I had a thread posted a couple of days ago to get a anti virus installed. Kind people suggested AVG and Skybot. Unable to download these as my computer for some reasons wont even acknowledge the link. Also my wife is trying to book some flights but is also unable to connect to the booking page and only gets as far as the Home page. Also no simely faces at the bottom of this forum or when i go to the gallery unable to see any photos. Now my knowledge of computers is really poor and i may be over looking something simple but what the hell has gone wrong,do i have to take it in and get it repaired or am i just being a real idiot and overlooking something simple.Any help would be appreciated but please keep it really simple for a novice
Cheers, would put a smiley face but none available.
