Road trip
« on: 02 July 2016, 21:49:35 »

Just boarded the train in Dusseldorf.  Drove the Omega from Bournemouth this morning and loaded it on the car train heading to Vienna. Then driving to Bratislava. Happened to drive on one of the Autobahns with no speed limit. Had to try the car out so got it up to 120mph. Handled really well but a good road helped. Had to slow down when a Opel Omega pulled into the fast lane. This is one of many trips in the Omega including Scotland earlier on this year, Italy and Holland last year as well as France.

Something not right there, had my 2.2 to 130 once. A V6 should easily do 140+

3.0/3.2 should do 160  :y

Not even a 3.0 will do that, let alone a 3.2.

A 2.5/2.6 might touch 140mph if given enough room to wind up far enough, and a 3.0/3.2 might touch 150mph under the same conditions.

Trouble with the auto V6's, when they hit top gear when flat to the floor, it takes a lot of effort to get them to accelerate further.  That is a shade under 130mph for the 3.0/3.2, and a bit over 120mph for 2.5/2.6.

My 3.0 got to a touch over 140 but it was slow going after that. The 3.2 has been up to just under 140 but traffic conditions prevented any further experimentation

Both my explod estates managed to just top acalibrated 150... Won't do it for long though... Uses fuel quicker than a match at that speed  ::)

Solid as a rock though 8)

My MV6 hit 145 (indicated) before the limiter kicked in, that was with the LSD fitted, IIRC the official top speed of the omega was 149mph

To be fair, I also had a speed limiter sat in the passenger seat :-X ::)

When I had the 2.6 a few years ago we went to Austria & used the Autobahns. I had a little play and took mine up to 120mph. I was sensible though and backed off due to a) it being day 1 of the holiday and I didn't fancy anything breaking of falling off, b) the fuel needle moving quicker than we were  :o :o :o , c) seeing SWMBO's knuckles turning whiter & whiter the faster I went. I did think it had a little more to offer but I go like the clappers in my work car so there was no need to in my own car.

Suffice to say even when doing 120mph, I wasn't going quick enough for the line of Audis, Porsches & BMW's behind me  ::) ::) ::)
