Not motorbke size scooters but personal mobility devices.

They are all the rage here in Spain with use and sales booming. The government hasn't sorted legislation over them leaving it to local municipalities to come up with rules. Bit different to the draconian rules I suspect are in force in the UK. ( use anywhere except in public?)

Why wouldn't you use something cheap that doesn't need a parking spot and can go anywhere , within reason. ? Oh and is green......

Battery Range and lack of charging infrastructure would be one thing to look into 
same as the UK
also goes for the electric cars ,
so buy one big enough to tow a big thirsty diesel generator on a trailer

The main difference between here and España is that it doesn't constantly piss it down over there.

If you come to Spain on your holibobs , you can hire them from a rank to get around the tourist sights.

I have got to say they are impressive in terms of speed , use and weight. In Malaga there is a rank near the harbour. No charging problems Dave.

In Bordeaux , we saw a couple of guys racing each other. They were very swift off the mark.

many of the people on such scooters piss themselves, so that wouldn't matter.

I believe that over here they're gaining popularity while the "powers that be"are trying to figure out whether they should be licensed,insured and where they can be used e.g. on the road or pavement or both.

That is interesting . I always thought the uk position on powered vehicles was they had to be insured and mot’d or road legal. That immediately precluded them from use on pavements. The obvious exception being lower powered mobility “ scooters”

Wasnt there a craze for two wheel scooters powered by a small two stroke motor back in the late 80s or early 90s.? They became obsolete overnight with legislation

Your referring to fat buggies, normal parked up outside local Gregg's,, quite often driving by a person who doesn't brake, will just charge thro pedestrians, beeping there horn,  basically an Audi for fat people with purple hair.

I hired a load of them from Lime when in Lisbon recently, fantastic way to explore the city! Dead easy to use, quite nippy as well.

If I ever switched to working in central London, I'd strongly consider one to commute to the train station. About £300-400 gets you a decent one.

Don't they need to be taxed and insured in the same way as a mini motor bike?

Regardless of the power source, they are still technically motorized...

Electrical booster motors on pushbikes are treading a fine line as it is.

Those in tunnies picture are the ones. 

You can buy them freely in electrical superstores in Europe mainland.

The 2 wheel electric scooters Tunnie is referring to (lime) are not legal to use on the roads or pavements in the UK.

So don't expect them to be usable in the towns and cities over here until the outdated law is changed.

Lime do have electric assisted bicycles in some areas (MK for one), they are very handy.

Segways, monowheels etc all fall under the same heading - not legal for use. Doesn't stop anyone, and can you imagine a copper actually stopping someone?

But yep, saw a guy on a monowheel in Bath, zooming about .. all I could imagine was how hard my face would hit the path if I tried it!

There's a fella rides a monowheel around Haw Park Woods here. Fair whizzes along. Another fella told me that he knows the guy, and it took him three years to master it. He has a rear view mirror stuck to the side of his helmet (behave yourselves) and that's because every time he looked round to see the coast was clear, he fell off.

Just not true anymore - having had 2 electric cars alongside the Omega, the charging infrastructure is more than enough for the current number on the road and expanding all the time.

The Olympic park is classed as private land hence why the trial is there

Police don’t have the resources nor are that bothered from what I’ve seen.

Indeed, and unless they receive a complaint from a member of the public, or an individual on one of these adult electric scooters, not the ones for children, causes an accident, nothing will happen
