Pretty impressive for 510 BHP......... :y

I shall save the world and baby polar bears with petrol. :)

My mpg is almost double that.......
.......and my average speed almost half. ;D

So......all things being equal the red pussy is precisely as frugal as your lorry fuel Astra. ::) ::) ;)
-
I am getting twice that with diesel fuel and dead babies and I don't hang about, oh and average speed about the same.
I am not convinced that petrol is that much better for the planet either
-
My old banger is seeing two and a half times that......and potentially doing away with some potential brats at the same time, win win (although in reality the NOx levels out the back are pretty much the same as a modern petrol)

Are the 'powers that be' in government aware of this because they seem intent on giving derv a good kicking at present?

In all truth 27.5 MPG is not really representative of the economy as a whole. More like 21-22 MPG is closer to the mark.
But on 50 MPH and 60MPH speed limited motorways the car can be quite frugal in it's long striding 8th gear, which needs just 2000 RPM for 90 MPH.

I'm sure they are, but everyone driving old bangers doesn't help prop up the economy with new car sales now, does it :P ;D

If it was not for £50/m VED, I'd consider an old SV8 XF.

I have to confess, your MPG is better than my 90BHP (when it left the factory in 1989) 1.6 auto MX5, although I do tend to drive 'spiritedly'.

Back in the day a sports saloon like a Jensen Interceptor or Aston Martin DB6 would have managed about 10-14 MPG over the same route.
My 1976 Triumph 2500S with overdrive would have been lucky to manage 20 MPG under the same conditions..
So economy has moved on even for cars that are not economical.

Not many made or left. You'd need to make do with a 4.2 S/C V8 and not much more than 400 BHP though. :)

My average speed is about 15mph and the consumption is about 50mpg in my 1.6TD :y :)
Tho that will probably change shortly as im looking at swapping the 1.6 out for a 2.0 :)

Twice as many petrol tankers on the road as for the frugal but fast diesels.
Twice as many bulk tanker ships belching out noxious fumes.
Twice as many stops to refill
twice as much electric used to fill the vehicle.
Think of your energy footprint :o :o
No I think there isn't much of a case for your gas guzzling monster except perhaps on the racetrack

Having recently zeroed the trip computer on the Omega I can tell you my ave. consumption for my commute is 14.5mpg,don't know about ave. speed but the highest speed limit I go in is 40mph for about three quarters of a mile.Commute is 2.7mls each way.
