General Starting problems......Help
« on: 07 August 2007, 17:29:33 »

okay not Omega, but looking for a different line of thougth as i am stumped on this wee rover..

No issues historically starting, no work previously done by me, all seems fine.

Today and yesterday tried to start it to compression test it...its not for playing.

Car turns over ( and ive done it so much the battery is flat)

Car has 1/4 tank petrol - ive also added more just in case, i can hear the fuel pump being primed pre ignition.

Ive attempted to jump it from a running Omega..

Ive changed all the plugs, the "coil" the king lead, the ignition leads the distributor for "known good" in all areas...no change.

Concerns - despite cranking and cranking it off a running car i cant flood it, there is no smell of petrol  :-/ i took out all ignition leads and tried to start it and it sounded exactly the same...( remember leads since changed)

Any thoughts?

;D ;D it does have potential hgf...but only a tiny little HGF. Ive even popped the timing cover off - all fine. And also undone the valve at the end of the fuel rail and got covered in fuel ( so its getting fuel)

Rover forum people ( i dont really use it that much) are not frankly coming up with anything i havent tried..

Its very simple though - its got till Thursday when my father is here to "start itself" ( we will determin its getting a spark) and if it doesnt...I break it.

one of my family members had this problem with a rover 414 si ,after having head gasket done, would not start on stand still but when push started would start, did compression test and it needed new piston rings, could be posability :y :y :y

Was about to ask if the intertia trip operated when you unleashed big bertha on it.. but that cuts the fuel pump IIRC.  :-/

Did you say it's got a spark?

Fuel pressure in the rail.. OK, but is there drive to the injectors when cranking?

Immobiliser issue?

It does then start to come down to crank sensor...

Hi Kevin - one of my girly weaknesses  :D is my fear of electricity i even get swmbo to put in / remove car batteries
Seriously i will check for spark tomorrow when i have an assistant ( Dad)

If i need to i am going to remove end swap out the whole inlet manifold ( i havea spare) which will include injectors fuel rail etc...

I aso have a spare crank sensor..so that will be nexxt
