General Car Chat / What a few days! They say things come in 3's
« on: 17 November 2016, 14:03:56 »
Well Friday the Washing machine packed up - I keep brushes in stock, no big deal.

Saturday, after a 12 hour shift, get a bad puncture so end up changing the wheel on a busy road in the middle of Crewe....
End result 2 new tyres needed....

Sunday, after another 12 hour shift, get to a roundabout, the car stalls, restart it an battery light on.
Manage another 15 miles before things are packing up, so make it to a pub car park, and await the AA who get me home by lending me a battery.  The aux belt tensioner had let go.
I borrow her car, she then borrows her dads to get through the next few days.  Parts ordered.

So get the old one off, a right mess...

Start putting it together, and seem to have too much belt....and a missing roller, backed up by every engine pic (Z19DTH) I could find online.

So, lack of part stopped play, Spoke to VX who ordered what they thought it was...due in for 4:30, got there and picked it up, went to carry on.
Realised that this new part was the other top idler, so rang em up, and very confusingly said my engine number didnt have any more parts, but the previous ones did....and they had one.
Too late to get it, or carry on now, so left it for the day.

Managed to find an old laptop with TIS on, and started playing...Found the differences

There are 2 different belts, and older one has an extra pully...So not missing anything after all, also realised nothing had been installed around that hole once I looked in better light.  Had another play this morning and got it all back together!  Running sweet as a nut.

So...backtracking to the tyres....I had booked an appointment for fitting....before the car broke...So, ok, Ill chuck the wheels in the boot of another car, and take em down....
How to confuse a garage!!....turn up for new tyres without the car!
Wheels are just here...Ok.
Right where's the locking nut key... erm you won't be needing that!
Right can we have the keys please.....erm you won't be needing those either!
Sorry, you can tell we have a fixed routine!
 Ahh well lightens the day!
So go to pick them up after an hour...
Sorry mate, gave the job to a lad....He couldnt find the car, or the keys so moved onto the next job....Sit and wait for half an hour while they fit em!

Comedy of errors really....just could do without another spell like that for a bit

General Car Chat / Breakdown
« on: 05 October 2016, 16:17:24 »
Oh the joys. Was servicing the Zafira and snapped the boost valve. Pop to the dealers to buy a new one in the MV6 And break down in sight of the parts dept.

So sat here waiting for the AA with the part to fix the other car sat next to me.

Ohh the irony. And they won't lend me a tech 2

General Car Chat / Zafira B Boot lock issues
« on: 11 August 2016, 11:55:17 »
Twice now the catch on my Zafira has failed to operate...

Symptoms, close the boot, and it just doesnt latch....examine and manually operate the catch and it just wont shut around the catch pin.

1st time, after a load of lock / unlock cycles, it started working again.
2nd time, took 24 hours of playing, was only when i disconnected boot lights, and was cable tieing the boot shut that it sprung back into life..

anyone heard of this / know a fix?
If I need a new lock Ill get one, just strange that its started working again.

Its possible that on both / one of the occasions something (dog bed) got in the way and stopped the boot latching, but I cant prove this at all.

General Discussion Area / Plane tracking Apps
« on: 30 July 2016, 14:06:34 »
What do people think the best plane tracking / identification all (for iOS) is?

Note really interested in monitoring passenger flights, ie enter a flight number and see where it is.//

More interested in "whats that noise / plane overhead" as we get a fair few unusal things overhead here being so close to Hawarden airfield.

tried a few free ones, but they seem a bit limited, so dont mind paying a few quid for one.

General Discussion Area / Hi-Lo Pir Availability
« on: 19 April 2016, 08:56:12 »
In need of a new PIR.

We have had for years, a hi-lo type.  Come on at dusk, at set dim level, when pir triggered, goes to full brightness, then back to dim again.
These were readily available years ago when I fitted it.

Now, can I find one, can I hell?  Anyone seen them recently?  or know why they seem to have vanished?

General Discussion Area / BT Fibre speed increase
« on: 15 April 2016, 18:06:21 »
Just seen if you order infinity 1, the speeds are now 52 meg down not 38.

Also available if you recontract.

Wonder if they will do the same with inifinity 2 at some point soon?  Hope so, but would have thought they would have done them both together.
