garage thought it was the oil cooler,as no mayonnaise on dipstick, oil cooler replaced, car then overheated on tickover, compression test reveal head gasket failure on the right bank.garage owner is a friend so not out to try and rip me off..

Never had head gasket go on the 2.6 yes oil cooler go, did they clean water ways out enough for coolant to flow, was your coolant bottle full off cream/oil?
coolant bottle full of cream, car overheated blew a hose and was recovered home.new oil cooler was fitted, old one was tested and found to be fine.cooling system well and truely flushed...TBH i just want rid of it....for the miles im now doing a v6 is just too expensive to fuel..

well my lovely immaculate omega has passed away.last week the car broke down and investigations reveal the head gasket as failed...im not prepared to spend nearly a grand to get it fixed so my question is what should i do with it...???  E bay as a spares or repair, break it or just get the local scrappy to come and get it...(the though of stripping a car for spares doesnt really appeal)...thanks phil....

life is so precious,so enjoy it while you can, you'll be amazed how many people tell me that as a paramedic who smokes "i should know better"...if i knew better i wouldnt drive a car, would live in a bungalow(stairs cause so may accidents) and would never consider crossing the road..in the past 2 weeks ive been to a 40yr old deceased,a 19yr old deceased and sadly a 6 month old baby...puts things in perspective... :'(

Critical car paramedic based in norwich but  cover the whole of norfolk,Extended skills over regular paramedics we tend to deal with the most critically ill/injured patients, and assist regular ambulance crews who's patients need urgent medical intervention ..Take my hat off to the bods on here who work with mental health patients….I fully admit thats a job i couldnt do….. :y

Bionic,i have to say that your post is a little unfair, and appears written with out knowledge of the subject. >:(.I get fed up listening to the media stating how wonderful public pensions are and how much they payout,As a scummy public sector worker i have been paying onto a pension for the past 20yrs(im now 39),the government is proposing i now work and pay into a pension till im 67 and pay an extra £280 a month every month...As an already burnt out Critical Care Paramedic Who regularly works 14hr days and nites pandering to the needs of a very selfish and demanding public,im expected to work longer, pay more but end up with a lower final pension..I cant see many 67yr old men wanting to be dealing with violent druggies, pixxed people, climbing into waterfilled ditches on a rainy pitch black early morning to pull someone from an overturned car etc etc can you ??.the private sector pays well, some get perks, staff discounts, xmas bonuses, shares, dividends,i get  abuse and complaints.i havent had a pay rise for 2 years but the cost of living has gone through the roof....Im not in a union and unlike a large number in the ambulance/nhs i didnt walk out at midnight to go on strike......People need to look at the whole picture and by the way,it REALLY gets on my tXXs when people say to me..."i pay your wages cos im a tax payer"..i also pay a lot of tax every month..

One final thought...The whole country had a day off for the royal wedding this year but no one minded...A small percentage go on strike and there is outrage....Double standards...???

Glad thats off my chest.its 0320 im at work, on my break... :y

guys ,with my car if i run it without the heater on full,it looses all its coolant, heater on full blows out hot air and no leakthis also drops the temp gauge, could the thermostat and or the hbv be faulty??? trying to get an online diagnosise as im skint and dont want to pay out money for a mechanic to look at it...any owners/mechanics live near norwich ??? thanks phil..

The HBV is always prime suspect when you have intermittent water loss, especially if heater or a/c settings make a difference. Try to watch the valve as the heater is altered.
Although there are many posts here about how much a PITA changing it is, it's not really that bad - Honest!  :y :y
Just buy yourself a box of plasters before you start, you'll probably need it.  ;D ;D ;D ;D
us paramedics get plasters free ;D ;D ;D ;D
