General Discussion Area / Do cars have a soul?
« on: 08 July 2007, 16:30:11 »
Serious (well sort of) question?  ;)

I have had a few exepriences that me sure they do!

The MV6 that the missus drive. That REALLY doesn't want to be parted from her!
My last attempt to get it into my ownership permanently ended with me writing off the bl**dy replacement I bought her so I had to give her the MV6 back!

Look at Mr McB's LPG project car. Every time he gets close to having it sorted, something happens.
The latest episode being his back!
That car is determined to be as cantankerous as its owner!  ;D

I remember a phillosphical/theological discussion on faith and car ownership a while back and this quote from a very smart friend sticks in my mind...

"If you believe in God, then he exists.
If you believe your car has a soul, then it does.
The soul of the car exists somewhere between you and the car.
Only you percieve it, and to percieve it you must believe in it.
But it couldn't exist without the car, and you couldn't percieve it without the car.
So yes, your car has a soul!" ;)

General Discussion Area / Good Days Work!
« on: 09 June 2007, 20:42:20 »
Well while some are lazing about drinking beer, me and James V6CDX cracked on with an oil cooler change on this latest project of mine.

Started at 11, took our time and finished around 4pm.
Spent the next hour and a half flushing the damn thing!

Job done!  :D

Really not bad to do, no harder than a cambelt change (a lot messier though!).

Oil cooler was completely  :-Xed!

The state of the breathers and throtle bodies was quite something too.
Car was registered on 21st December 1999 and I don't think the breathers had been touched since!  :o

A tip for anyone having to do the job in future,

Machine Mart "Traffic Film Remover" is bl**dy brilliant stuff! :)
Great at cleaning the goo out of the valley and when put into the coolant, very effective at shifting the digusting stuff.
Done 3 flushes with it already. I will do a couple more to complete the job, but for £5 for 5 litres it is very highly recommended!

Once again, many thanks to James for coming and giving me a hand.  :y
Much quicker job with 2 of you and it was a good education for both of us.

General Discussion Area / Yet another Omega for me...
« on: 04 June 2007, 21:24:19 »
Yep, bought another project/means of transport!

This was on ebay.....http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=007&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=170118571589&rd=1&rd=1
... until I had it off him for a very decent price  ;)

I can conclusively say the oil cooler is well and truly  :-Xed

Alas this means I cannot make it to the Lakes this weekend.  :(
I have to get this sorted and running this weekend as I am need of transport for now, then I will move this on (bank really needs the money!).

Lovely car, beautiful condition with a fully stamped service book right up to last April! :)

General Discussion Area / Question for Senator owners...
« on: 30 May 2007, 13:33:56 »
What is it about the old barges that makes us so damn emotionally attached to them??

I have owned 6 now, and I have loved 5 of them (had a dog of an ex plod briefly).

Lost count of the number of Omegas I have owned over the last few years.

I love the Omegas too... (well, enough to set this place up!  ;D) but I have only once felt really unhappy at selling one.

I know the Omega is a better car (not more reliable!) but a Senator has something that keeps me coming back to them.

Has anyone figured out what this "something" is yet?

General Discussion Area / A very public thank you...
« on: 15 May 2007, 12:38:02 »
To Matchless.  :y

He spent quite a bit of time sorting out the air con on SWMBO's coupe and the end result was a car that was so damn cold the steering wheel was difficult to hold!  :o

He also spotted a couple of jobs I will sort out tonight (weather permitting) to ensure they remain preventative rather than remedial!

I don't think he gets enough credit for all the things he does, so I am just taking this opportunity to say thank you once again to a thoroughly decent bloke!  :D

General Discussion Area / £3k Challenge.
« on: 06 May 2007, 19:45:32 »
A bit of fun.

You have £3k to spend on a car. Just something you would quite like.
It does not have to be practical, just something you always fancied, but have never had.

Only rule is, it can't be an Omega! ;)

For me, a 300zx (may take some time to find a good one at that price!)
Just always loved the shape and a twin turbo V6 will certainly be fun!
