 ::)Hi - please let me know how you get on. I tried to do mine and I couldn't get the old one out. Everyone said it just pull up and out after removing the retaining screw. Well mine would not come out.

As said, it pulls up from the top, electrical connector end, after removing bolt that holds it in, a bit of a wiggle may be needed.
You dont need to remove the cam cover and actually you didnt need to remove the cam belt cover or aux belt. You have done it 'vx book' method  but sensor can be removed by loosening cam belt cover and prising back as far as aux belt.

Well yes but I did take the Aux belt off and removed the cover. The bolt holding the sensor in place was removed and the eletrical connector. The sensor was then loose and dropped slightly - I pull it up and it came up about ¾" and then was stuck. It would not come up any further, moved from side to side, but not up. Totally stuck as to what to do now - looks like a garage job!

I'm a bit confused whether you actually disconnected the wiring connector or not. Can you wiggle the sensor at all or is it dead stuck? At least at the 2.0 this is so easy that even the clumsy norwegian guy can do it

When released it moves quite freely - just will not come up through the slot. Seems to be stuck behind the cam sprockets. Electric connector has to be removed, not enough slack on the cable to be able to pull it out.

Anyone thought of anything - don't really want to spend good money on a garage if it isn't necessary.

Tried again - still no luck. Think the rocker cover has to come off. Looking closely I think the slot in the cover is wide enough to lift the top off and leave the sensor behind. Don't know whether it will give more access to remove the sendor though?

What is the part code of your new sensor?

 Part No:90520850 from Vauxhaul Spares Centre. Depth 1.5cm. Haven't been able to have another go as yet - bit wet outside

Post some pics next time.......I have done a few of these and they always just pull straight up and out through where the wiring connector pokes.

Thanks will look forward to it. But to be honest I will be suprised as looking at my new sensor the black platic circular piece - which I assume to be the actual sensor, is actually thicker than the appature that it is supposed to come out through. Will give it a proper measure later today and let you know the result.

Looks like a dead end. Thanks for all the advice guys - much appreciated. I think I'll have one more try before it goes into the garage, if the weather is good to me, at the weekend. Will keep you posted.

yes Torx removed and to be on the safe side the big bolt for the cam belt cover. Electrical conection disconected also

Yep, aux belt off, cambelt cover off and spark plug cover off....remove the torx bolt between the two cam sprockets and pull the sensor up and out from the end of the cam cover spark plug recess......re-fit is reverse of removal.

Occasionally with a new length of loom...

URGENT - got it all stripped down - sensor will not come out - seems to be caught behind the cam sprockets - help please

Tried every thing - would not come out. The black plastic bit- sensor?? seems to be in a slot in the back plate - hence the unit it too thick to come out. Tried everything - wanted to do the rocker gasket as well but started to rain. The only thing that I can think of is that the top LHS sprocket and possibly the RHS has to be losened and pulled forward, if that is possible - this will make a bit extra room for it so it can be lifted out. Looks also that it has to come out even to lift the rocker cover as the electric plug is too large for the top to be removed. That's the female plug on the actual sensor??

Well looks as if my friendly mech is going to get a job - hello Mr nice bank manager!!!

Its a nice easy job on the 2.2

Sounds good - where is it. Does the cam cover need to come off. Got the gasket and o rings just in case

Have ordered the animal - will arrive on Friday.  £50 + vat - ouch!
