General Car Chat / A316 - (M3) - Average Speed Camera's
« on: 18 March 2016, 11:05:00 »
Just a warning to those that use the A316 going into London (bottom of the M3) - There appears to be average speed cameras set up now, real sneaky ones, set very high. Just one camera for both lanes, with an "L" shape painted in each lane.

They have removed the fixed cameras after elevated section near the Shell garage, and the one near Twickenham stadium. I zoomed up there on the bike this week, now dreading a bit of paper arriving.  :'(

No signs yet indicating average speed cameras, do they have to do this? As currently there are no speed camera signs  :-\ :-\

I normally use this route on the GS, so it's easily to go over the average.  :(

Omega General Help / Compression Testing
« on: 10 March 2016, 22:54:21 »
So I've compression tested my trusty steed, have to say there is something about working at night with head lamps  ;D

Now instructions said do it with warm engine, I did it while cold. Any impact?

Results:

Pot 1 = 15.5 Bar
Pot 2 = 15.3 Bar
Pot 3 = 15.8 Bar
Pot 4 = 16.0 Bar

So all consistent and about the same, so it looks like HG has survived?

General Car Chat / Towing Manual Omega
« on: 09 March 2016, 20:58:42 »
Since my 2.2 is a manual, I'm assuming it can be towed with front wheels off the ground?

It's only the autos which need to be towed with rear wheels off the ground?

My 2.2 has finally let me down, first time ever!

Keeps over heating, into the red and coolant light on  :'(

Coolant level was fine when it first overheated, all still there. Perhaps stuck stat? As going along at 20/30 temp stayed stable ish. Got up to a clear section, went to 40mph and shot up to 95. So pulled in.

Going to upgrade to AA Relay, as if this had been MrsT with little miss T things could be a lot worse. Currently awaiting said AA bod, while I'm eating a bloody terrible sandwich from a Mace shop at a BP station.

Huge thanks to TheBoy for the unexpected call and diagnosis efforts, very, very much apprieated.

Just hope I've not cooked the HG  :'( :'(

General Discussion Area / Painting Fresh Plaster
« on: 07 March 2016, 17:09:22 »
I've never painted onto fresh plaster before, I've had some insulation put on the conservatory walls. It's then been plaster-boarded then skimmed, it's all gone a nice pink colour, so fully dried out.

I did not know this but I'm told I need to 'mist coat' the walls first? Say 1 cup of paint to 4 cups of water?

It then needs 3 or 4 coats, is this the best way?

Cheers in advance  :y

General Car Chat / Interesting Child Seat

Wonder if it would fit the Omega, says it fits Insignia. The "bump" in the back bench, could cause issues.

General Car Chat / What code reader?
« on: 25 January 2016, 18:41:42 »
Time for me to invest in a decent code reader, not after a mobile based one with a Bluetooth dongle.

Thinking something like this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Autel-Autolink-AL319-EOBD-Reader/dp/B007XE8C74/ref=sr_1_8?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1453747010&sr=1-8&keywords=obd2+scanners+2015

Recall this one having good reviews here previously?

Omega General Help / Coolant Hose Part Number/Size?
« on: 24 January 2016, 12:26:43 »
Does anyone have part number for coolant hose pipe, that runs from the stat to the throttle body on a 2.2?

Wonder if it's worth just buying simple length of coolant pipe and cutting to length? - If so does anyone know what mm size is required? Looks quite small, 8mm?  :-\

Replaced the stat yesterday, but getting bit of leakage from the hose than runs to the throttle body. It's original pipe work so I think it's just gone to hard and brittle.

Omega General Help / 2.2 Petrol Stat Change
« on: 21 January 2016, 18:59:54 »
Picked up new stat, the rubber gasket is already on the stat housing.

Is it worth taking this off, then putting a tiny bit of grease around the rubber gasket, then re-seating?

Or just apply to the surface/stat housing on the engine block where it's mounting to?

General Car Chat / Headlight Bulbs
« on: 08 January 2016, 15:09:12 »
For the 2.2, any flavours of the month? One went pop few weeks back, I popped a random spare in that I had in the garage. Now the other one went pop  ::)

Was thinking Osram Night Breaker Unlimited....

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Rear Courtsey Lights
« on: 01 January 2016, 11:37:55 »
The upper ones, by the grab handles.

Can brighter bulbs be fitted? I'm finding the standard fit a bit dim, with Little MissT's new car seat it is a bit difficult to see the green marker for correct position. Plus be better to see a bit more.

Any recommendations?

General Discussion Area / Online Drawing Plans?
« on: 17 December 2015, 16:02:32 »
I need to create floor plans, drawn to a metric scale of 1:100 and proposed elevation illustrations, again drawn to a metric scale.

Are there any websites which you can do this on, or freebie software? I've been searching but can't find much.

If nothing is available, I'll have to go old-skool with paper, but I'm not good with that kind of stuff  :(

Omega General Help / Clean Lazy Stat?
« on: 14 December 2015, 08:53:03 »
On the 2.2, I've noticed the stat is getting a bit lazy. Even after 20 mins at 50mph (M3 road works) it's still only at 80. Clear the road works, get to normal 80mph cruise and it's about 82/83.

Sometimes in stop/start work this morning, it does get up to 85 and stay there. But over the hour run to work, it's staying at 80 most of the time.

Normally it would sit bang on 85 all the time.

Is it worth taking it off, soaking it in Plusgas or something? As it does appear to open fully at times and stay there, just appears to be a bit "sticky"  :-\

Stat is around 85k/8 years old, was last changed at 100k.

Or is it just time for a new one? Reason to ask about cleaning, is it's very easily accessible unlike the V6.

General Discussion Area / Calling Jasonm.....
« on: 13 December 2015, 00:01:43 »
Wonder if I could ask what the police can do, or what powers they have in a situation like this.

We were sat on our sofa, just about an hour or so ago. We then heard a massive crash and bang, looked in the back garden to see a car in there! The b@started then reversed out and drove off  :o  >:(

We are in a town, he must having been going stupid speed to crash through a metal fence, our wooden fence and take out some concrete posts.

Luckily his number plate came off! So have a full details of it, we gave it to the police who said they would make a call on the registered driver. But in a situation like this, can they prove who was driving? There would be damage to the car.  :-\

I googled the reg and actually found an advert for it's sale some time ago.
