General Discussion Area / Quick Q for admins - selling parts...
« on: 04 August 2015, 23:59:42 »
Is a roofbox considered a part? Not used it, tempted to sell. Border line for parts section?  :-\

It does fit Omega but not an Omega part clearly  ;D

Omega General Help / Front Brake Bleed Nipple
« on: 02 August 2015, 00:02:28 »
It's rounded off, a socket can free it, but no room/space for drain tube.

To replace can you just unscrew old one, then screw in a new one, even with fluid pouring out?

Also are they universal? Where is a good source?

Cheers

Omega General Help / Rear Shock Top Mounts
« on: 01 August 2015, 23:57:02 »
Been searching, can't find thread with rear shock top mount bush details.

Got the 2.2 in the air today, took bottom bolt off the shock. Pushing it up, the shock returns smoothly in one motion. So shock is fine, fair bit of movement at the top, can wiggle top end of the shock about a fair bit. So as per suggestions, shock mounts have failed.

Guess GM only for these?

General Car Chat / The Economics of a new car
« on: 17 July 2015, 12:17:51 »
MrsT has often hinted, why don't we get a new car? Save you from doing car work!

This popped on that book-of-face site.. (park the dealer name for now, we know how they are) - Also anything about the 1.4 in the Astra  :-X

http://www.evanshalshaw.com/brands/vauxhall/vauxhall-new-car-offers/astra-gtc-models/astra-gtc-14i-sport/low-payment/

So...

48 Monthly Payments of - £164.00
On The Road Cash Price - £11,991.00
Customer Deposit - £0.00
Evans Halshaw Deposit Contribution - £1,000.00
Total Amount of Credit - £10,991.00
Total Amount Payable - £14,412.19
First Payment inc fee  - £313.00
Option to Purchase Payment Inc Fee - £5,392.19

Term of Agreement   49 months

Rate of Interest (Fixed)    3.82%

So even after shelling out nearly £8k over 4 years, you own bugger all! Have to cough up another ~£5k to own it. Add in the fact that the value of a Vauxhall, drops faster than a brick in a swimming pool. So if you get hit/written off, you will have some fun and games.

That's a shit ton of money, for something you still need to insure, tax and maintain! I don't think I've spend £164 across both of my Omega's maintenance wise this year, including an air-con re-gas for the 3.2

A good reminder I think, need to remember this when I fill up the 3.2  ::)  ;D

General Car Chat / 406 HDI
« on: 14 July 2015, 11:28:51 »
I know a few people here have had a 406 and rate them highly, a few questions....

Car in question is a 2001 on a Y, 406 110 HDi

1) Does not look like this year would have a DPF?
2) If no DPF, re-map looks good modification, up to 145bhp with no issues/changes?
3) Maintenance looks straight forward from youTube videos, oil changes, filters, etc all look simple. Access looks good.
4) Are they generally easy to work on?

Got Sky?

I can get you half price Movies & Sports for 12 months.

They do need to be taken together (basically getting one free) and you can't have had Movies/Sports in your contract for last 30 days.

Cost would be £17.25/m as an upgrade to get them both  :y

General Car Chat / For those that have multi-car insurance
« on: 06 July 2015, 21:01:59 »
Had any lucky applying commuting across 2 policies, but only one car at a time?

Renew is up in Sept, both will (if cheaper) going onto a multi car policy. Only one of the cars is used to commute at any one time, depends if MrsT has the 2.2.

As I normally use that if its raining or too cold for the bike. But if she has/needs the 2.2, I take the 3.2.

3.2's policy expires in a week and is in that "stop gap" period before joining the multi car policy in September, hence asking now.

Omega General Help / Aircon Cleaning Can
« on: 03 July 2015, 18:00:19 »
When 3.2 was done last year at Vx, they gave me a can to clean the system.  I think you set it off in the passenger footwell, so its taken up the air intakes. Have it set to low so full aircon max fan speed and recirculate?

How long should I leave it on after the can has run out. 10 mins?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Meyle Rear Shocks
« on: 26 June 2015, 22:31:29 »
Really must get around to investigating noise on the back of the 2.2, as shocks were last changed in 2008, around 70k ago, could well be them  ;D

Will have to pop lower bolt off, push them up and see if they return correctly.

But thought get ahead of the game, just incase, seen AGP:

http://www.allgermanparts.co.uk/product/product?path=1219_1226&product_id=14781&group=100121

Have Meyle rear shocks for just £25, anyone used them before? Very happy with the Meyle droplinks.

General Discussion Area / Washing Solar Thermal Roof Pannels
« on: 24 June 2015, 20:14:46 »
My house has two solar thermal panels, these have coolant in them. It's circulated by a pump near the boiler, I hear it activate in sunny weather. This coolant then heats water for the house, which is nice.

My question, should I clean them? They look a bit grubby, going by what the conservatory roof gets caked in, the panels must be similar.

The panels are flat, not tubes. They look like this Google photo:

Surely a nice clean panel, would get a better heat conversion?

If I do, is just a sponge and soapy water suitable?

Thanks
