Best V6 on the market
« on: 12 August 2010, 01:51:57 »

been told that the V6 omega engine is probably one of the best examples of german ingenuity & engineering on the market... question is... other than obvious differences such as BHP or top speed... as a unit is there one Omega V6 lump that is simply the best?? 2.5L 2.6L 3.0L 3.2L etc. "ENGINE ONLY" including LPG & TD :y not which car, because thats too subjective  ;)

It was built in Ellesmere port.  :-[

I suspect we'd be in real trouble if there was German ingenuity in it. ;D

The engines are very similar in construction. Only differences are in the ancillaries bolted to it except that the 3.2 has a forged crank whereas the others are cast.

Would respectfully suggest the 3.0 V6 is the very best, slightly higher compression, and the most torquey of the bunch.
Please read my "mile muncher" thread.............

The 3.0 is possibly the most frugal on fuel too if you don't have a lead right foot. on a good run, 30mpg is EASILY achieveable, although more like 23-26 around town.

Speed wise, in my opinion, the 3.0 is the best too, several of us on here have seen 150mph (and more!) There are some better points on the 3.2, i.e. DBW and better exhaust manifolds, etc. but in essence, the 3.0 can be made superior in all respects easily and relatively cheaply. Oh, and the 3.0 doesn't suffer from the 0430 code from the lambda sensors either!!

Just my (slightly biased) opinion. :y

Depends entirely on needs. Nobody can doubt as a motorway cruiser, the 2.5/6 in manual form is the most economical of the bunch. The 3.0/2 have better midrange pulling power.

Between dbw and non dbw, not much between them

3.0 for me, easier to chip, cant afford the Road Tax on a  3.2.  :(

Would have love to get my hands on one those 2.5DTi euro jobs though, nearly 200 bhp with some simple mods.  ;)

Not that I've tried, but theoretically speaking, if chrisgixer (3.2 auto LPG) and I (3.0 auto LPG) were trying done the A43, after Kevin wood dropped out with dying brakes, there was absolutely nothing in it. Hypothetically speaking of course

Certainly not anything significant in it. Will have to try my no-bull5h1t pub-figure generator AP22 performance meter one day when a suitable <cough!> private test track presents itself. ::)

3.0 all day long, used one in an omega i drifted competetively for 2 years, got an oil and filter change after every race and a timing belt kit every 6 months, completely stock engine and lsd, revved its head off for hours, never gave any bother and embarrassed plenty of big money big power jap cars built with daddys cheque books, loved it so much i put it in my 98 reflection and drove it on the road for a further year, absolute blast until i was offered too much money for it. Looked at a 3.2 mv6 manual to replace it, imo my current 2.5td pulls way harder, miss you AKZ 5400  :'( :'( should never have sold her
