Catalytic Test on V6 ??
« on: 18 September 2010, 13:42:25 »

Seems like i have a damaged cat, but replacing both cat's will cost approx £600 with Vx trade club discount  :( some have said I need a back pressure test, are most garages equipped to do this & how much £ approx?

Also is there any sort of test port (13mm bolt hole) on the exhaust pipe between cat & back box ?? On other V6's there's often a 13mm bolt you can remove to put emissions probe into so you can determine which cat is failing..

thanks, steve

As the cats are reliable (ignoring the 3.2 starting cats), genuine 2nd hand ones are a good option

 :y

Not being rude, but never buy crap aftermarket cats.

They are worth buttons in scrap value, and there is a reason for that.

ONLY buy decent, GENUINE cat's.

no omega cats on eternalcar site  ::) some on the bay of E for about £85 each side..?  Vx trade club discount quote from Andyc £300 each side  :o

Now wondering if new MAF sensor would be better than gambling on cats... latest reading today is showing CO content at natural idle as 0.07% which is very, very low! and 0.47% at fast idle which is very high! ??????????????

If my Cats or a Cat is/are destoyed, would my CO be so low at natural idle  :question

I'm now thinking MAF / engine management problem  :-/

Can't get to a tech2 so either way I need to take a gamble  :(

Drop a PM to Loo-knee or have a look in parts for sale at cars being broken for spares. ;)
