Omega General Help / clutch pedal sticking
« on: 19 September 2013, 22:57:21 »
My clutch pedal has started staying down when I press it. Then when I lift the pedal beyond half way it springs back up.  Seems to be an intermittent problem.  I remember it on my old mig but it was so rare I never got round to looking at it before everything else stopped working.  Anyone know what causes it? Are there any manual migs left even? :(

General Discussion Area / nighidiotchmen easter egg
« on: 13 September 2013, 02:43:10 »
Very odd.  Everytime I type "night watchmen" but without the space it appears on the forum as nighidiotchmen.

Someone please try it before it gets fixed :).  You only have to preview your message to see it, you don't actually have to post :

Is it directed at someone I wonder.

Omega General Help / green liquid leak
« on: 10 September 2013, 22:56:25 »
Noticed a leak while under the car tody, not dripping but wet and a drop waiting to fall.  I assumed it was the air con as it looked like marker dye (yellowy green) and it was in that area but I got distracted and forgot to investigate it further.  Now it's dark outside :(.  Thinking about it later the air con is gas not liquid so it can't be that can it? It was under the engine  n/s near the wishbone as I recall. Air Con/brakes/power steering all work OK. My coolant is red.

Omega General Help / lost key transponder chip
« on: 21 August 2013, 20:20:53 »
Came to use my spare key today and engine just turns over.  On inspection the transponder chip has fallen out, probably happened the last time I use the spare key and it came apart.

So am I right in thinking I need to either live without a spare key or get a second hand or blank key with chip in eg http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160575925383 and find someone with tech2?

Omega General Help / OhMG
« on: 16 August 2013, 00:37:18 »
I now have a battery minder installed.  On test it cuts the battery off when the voltage under load drops to 10.9V for a period of time.  That is Ok, believe it or not it easily leaves the battery with enough power to start the car (returning to 12.3V if left to rest).  I wouldn't mind if the cut off was higher but my main aim is to reduce the draw of the device which is 17ma.  Not a lot but seems to defeat the purpose if the device itself is draining the battery. The device is potted so I can't get at it but I assume the 17ma standby draw is a small solenoid. Obviously I can't get the draw to zero but a bit lower would be good.

So what I'm planning to do is put a small resistor inline between the device (which is bolted onto the 12V+) and its wire to the negative terminal to reduce the draw and probably up the cut out voltage.  I'll just play around with a few different resistors but can anyone suggest a starting Ohm figure? I assume 1/4W rated resistor will be OK but may use two 1/4Ws in parallel.

Omega General Help / sun screen
« on: 28 July 2013, 20:23:49 »
Bit late now I know summer is ended  8) but what is the best sun screen for the windshield?  I bought one from the pound store which is Ok (considering the cost) but i'd like one that is larger, more rigid and fits the mig windscreen better.

Omega General Help / boot release/interior light delay
« on: 28 June 2013, 00:28:52 »
I did Hillpers excellent Boot Mod (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90516.0) a while back to disable the boot dash button disable function.  Well worth it - now I can open the boot with the keys in the ignition, even at 70mph if I want to :o.

One drawback though seems to be the interior light delay.  Now at night I get in the car, start the engine and the interior light stays on while I drive off. Then after a few seconds it does fade off.  I'm sure it used to go off much sooner.  Is that right?  If so I assume me cutting the key-in-lock wire as per Hillper has caused it.  Is there a fix?

I don't want to have to go back to removing the keys just to open the boot. That was the biggest pain of me moving from a pre facelift to facelift mig. It was bad enough having to have the keys to hand or press a dash button when before on an unlocked car you could just lift the handle.

Omega General Help / v6 auxillary belt, 2 sizes?
« on: 10 May 2013, 22:52:38 »
I've searched the forums and there seem to be two sizes for the v6 with air con aux/serpentine/fan belt -  6PK2030 and  6PK2020, the difference being 10mm.

The vaux part number often quoted, 93181720, seems to be a 6PK2020.  There are some references to the 2020 being difficult to fit and straining the tensioner, with the 2030 much easier to fit (being longer).  Is there a definitive answer on this?  The current one on my car is a 2020, probably the original, but I am thinking a 2030 will be easier to get on and stress the tensioner less.

Anyone know what this is for? (2.6 V6 Elite). It joins the cable by the front shock mounting.  Looking at the corrosion on the connections it doesn't seem to have been plugged in for a long time.

Omega General Help / spark plugs
« on: 09 April 2013, 18:46:56 »
Just changed the plugs on my 2.6 V6 :).  The old ones were NGK R BKR6EQUP.

Does that mean they were not the originals?  They looked well worn (centre electrode flush with insulation cone) car has only done 73K so I was expecting them to be originals.
Possibly they were changed at the 4th service, 47K but they look like they've done more than 26K don't they? Maybe they were changed at 12K, service book says a 40K service was done then.  Looking at them I wouldn't have wanted to leave those in any longer.

The OOF guide was excellent http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90536.msg1155385#msg1155385
for some reason I didn't need to undo the troublesome plug with the wire spring (pic 10).  I thought about not splitting the long plastic cable cover (pic 11) but it wasn't too difficult and made everything much easier, in fact its probably not possible without doing that.  Much easier than my 2.5V6 plugs were. However I did a 2l Honda Accord last year and that was 5 minutes, would have been less if I was in a hurry :o.

Omega General Help / oil filter
« on: 06 April 2013, 22:42:12 »
Today I converted my alloy cansiter and paper element oil filter to the cheaper and easier spin on one, following the excellent guide http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90579.msg1155460#msg1155460 thanks for that :y.

Some things that may help  - my cannister didn't have the 27mm nut inside so I had to use the 12mm allen key (actually almost 12.5mm).  Luckily I had both the key and the 27mm socket but they are quite obscure tools to me.

The lid came off easily.  This is despite National Disgrace Tyres clearly overtightening it last time.  I wonder if the common problem is  them being tightened while hot but trying to undo them while cold?  Mine was hot for both.

The inside retaining bolt came off surprisingly easily too.  I had a club hammer ready but it wasn't needed.

Getting the double threaded adapter in tightly is a bit tricky, it must be tempting to put a pipe wrench on it but that would damage the filter thread. If I had 2 M18 nuts to hand I would have used the old trick of tightening one against the other and undoing when the thread lock had set.  What I did instead was to put a small expanding bolt inside the adapter, expand it, screw the adapter in using it,  then contract the bolt and remove it.  Worked well.

So now I have an alloy canister in good nick with seal, bolt and lid.  Is it worth putting it in the for sale section now I finally have enough posts?  I suspect people only need them immediately so there is no demand.  Plus anyone with a broken cannister would be better off fitting the adapter.

Having run some 5W30 through for 300 miles to clean out the crap I now have oil so clean you can only tell it is not above the top mark by pressing a tissue against the dipstick :)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / burning audio cds from mp3
« on: 24 March 2013, 00:27:47 »
I've made some audio cds from MP3 files and they play fine in my old home stereo but the elite multi cd player comes up with 'error'. Is my elite player too old and is there a way to make the cds  compatible?
