General Discussion Area / Online MOT check, now easier
« on: 16 October 2015, 17:42:15 »
From today you don't need numbers off the MOT or V5 to check history

Go on, waste an hour like I did looking at car's you used to own and why they failed subsequent MOT's

General Car Chat / Winter tyres, just on front?
« on: 14 October 2015, 18:47:58 »
HAHA my first tyre thread  ;D

Mrs Omegod does a fair old run to work which includes covers some untreated country roads, I'm considering throwing a couple of winter tyres on 2 spare rims I have for the front end of her Fiesta. Why not 4 ? I'm a tightarse and the rears are pretty much brand new  ;)

Any thoughts? is it worth the bother?

General Discussion Area / Vulcan, Southport airshow
« on: 19 September 2015, 20:51:29 »
It was very sad seeing this flying today and knowing, that for me, it will be for the last time :'( :'( . Nice display and it looked awsome in formation with the red arrows. A Typhoon turned up and basically ripped the sky apart with a cracking display, funny seeing people actually in shock due to the noise it made  ;D

I'm hoping Jimbob attended and took some decent pics !

Just doing a little job on the car and heard a right old racket above, 2 x Typhoon jets cruised over really low. We never get military stuff so must be a recce for tomorrows airshow at Southport.  :D I nearly did a wee with excitement  ;D

General Discussion Area / Phone patching help?
« on: 09 September 2015, 15:04:06 »
Tech help please, I've done a bit of patching before but not sure what's needed here. We have the usual spiders web of a comms cabinet and need a dedicated phone line to one of our network points, BT have installed the line into the room i.e a socket in the wall : what's the adapter called to attach a network cable to this ? can I then just put the network cable into the matching numbered network port that the phone is plugged into?

General Car Chat / Astra diesel
« on: 20 August 2015, 18:57:36 »
Got a 15 plate one as a hire car in Ireland at the mo, just in case anyone is contemplating one...don't as it's utter, utter shite ! No power , gears are spaced terribly, steering is over sensitive, center console leaves no where for your left leg to move and this particular one pulls to the left for some reason!

Review completed  ;D

General Discussion Area / Must be dodgy!
« on: 18 August 2015, 18:27:39 »
Popped out to Tesco earlier to use the cash machine and both were in use by what looked to be an Eastern European father and teenage daughter, they must have used 30 cards between them to check the balance then clean out the available funds to the daily max,he was passing them to her without having to tell her any PIN numbers which was the weird bit and the cards were all from different banks? It must have been a £7-8k wad when they finally finished >:( He then got into the drivers seat of a private hire cab and they buggered off.

Assuming they were cloned/stolen cards he surely would have had to tell her the numbers, my only assumption is it's some benefit scam getting paid into multiple accounts ? Either way I was well peed off so took the reg and taxi plate number but guess the police would not be particularly bothered :-\ may email it to crimestoppers all the same.

Any thoughts what the deal here could be ?

General Discussion Area / Car hire
« on: 10 August 2015, 18:48:02 »
Planning on buggering off to Republic of Ireland next week and car hire from Avis is looking silly cheap at £86 for a Focus diesel for a week. I've never hired a car before  :-[ and  am wondering if they actually have the dance with extra's n stuff at the desk ? i'm being offered "full protection" on the booking form at £7 per day which covers the excess if I prang it but are there any alternatives to this through my own insurance or is it just a rip off ?

General Car Chat / Cheap tyre site
« on: 29 July 2015, 13:56:45 »
I use blackcircles usually but just bagged a set for SWMBO's fiesta for a barganous price, saved the link for what I recall the Omega size is and they seem cheaper than I recall paying with a fair selection of brands too.

General Car Chat / Car tracking via internet?
« on: 22 July 2015, 17:37:45 »
Just a thought after the jeep hacking thread, if posh cars have ip addresses / bluetooth etc can they not be tracked easily via this when they get nicked? Londinium rangey rovers are going walkies on a daily basis I believe  :-\
