On the project car, attempted fitting replacement genuine GM virtually new headlights. Couldn't get the adjustment anything like it should be, to me it looks like they aren't RHD. Put old headlights back in, adjuster broke on both of them refitting the bulbs, found another set of headlights which were better and had new adjusters fitted so fitted them, adjusters need a helping hand from the rear and can't get the level right on them so have set them low.

Bit of a crossroads now with it all, no new headlights available, no decent used headlights, i'm sick to death of trying to make decent pairs and replacing the adjusters. i'm considering taking the set of out of the daily and fitting them as I have to go to Scotland in a weeks time...  :(

You did adjust the bar for the beam pattern?

I know you know your way around them, so only ask incase you overlooked it in the moment  ;)

Cheers Al, yep did try in both positions but made no difference (I believe it just cancels the kickups for continental use). The problem is centering the beam, if I adjust the beam left/right for correct alignment I then can't get them low enough, if I sacrifice the central point I can get them nearly level.

The sad bit now is that most headlights have brittle cog drive on the back, I can find no replacement parts for that even from Hella...

Adjusters broke on the old ones when I swapped the bulbs back in  :'(

Nothing is simple is it!  ;D

EDIT: Oh and the white plastic / abs cogs are brittle and broken so can't refurbish this set of headlights.

Yes proper D2S and E marked lenses so should be able to make a decent pair of headlights up if I can find some headlights with white cogs that are ok.  :y

I found some aluminium adjusters when tidying at the weekend if they are of use.

More tractor work, new PTO seal fitted, most of the back end now in primer.

Needs a new clutch pedal bush and PTO selector shaft seal, will get those done on Thursday.

About to go out and get back on the cambelt change. Hopefully more straightforward this time.  ::)

Actually had a bit of time this morning to revisit the Omega cambelt. Started from scratch and fited the belt anti clockwise as advised by YZ250. all went straightforward and cams all perfectly timed up. Checked all bolts torqued up properly and had a cup of tea.
Im still convinced I did it clockwise, last time I did it just over 4 years ago.  :-\
Was then going to get stuck into reassembling everything between showers, but got roped into moving some bags of soil for swmbo.
Did my back a serious mischief in the process and called it a day. ::)
Now back on nights for four nights, so its probably going to be the weekend before its up and running. How can a simple job manage to run into a week ?  ::)

That reminds me, I really, really must refit the engine cover to the XJ.  Or maybe I should string that out for another week ;D

Had the Mundano in to the garage today to fit front struts, top mounts, front pads, rear shocks, drivers knee air bag, intercooler to turbo hose and injector leak off pipe clip. Had a phone call, front pads are wrong, intercooler hose wrong despite suppling the reg to the suppliers to get correct fitment. Got home tonight and could smell diesel and found the leak off pipe retainer had failed, again. Four new ones now fitted and they still wont hold the pipe. Back to the wooden wedge to hold it in. And the knee air bag fault has come back again. And people ask me why I cant stand Fords. Just cant quite put my finger on it really.........Anyone got a bit of petrol and a match?.............
