Been losing water for a while, couldn’t find where the hell it was coming from but finally found it to be top hose, tiny split on the lower part. Do they still do new ones?

It's several years since I bought mine, and they had to order it. Cost £23, which was a good deal. I find they rot at the engine end where they've been soaked in oil from leaky cam covers - another reason to fix that problem!

One of my son's Uni housemates is creating some prototype replacements for the failing headlight rear adjuster cogs....

I found it wasn't the gearteeth that failed, but that it spun on the shaft. A really good brand of epoxy was necessary to make them work again.

But this is just the sort of thing 3D printers are good for, and every time I see this sort of job I think I ought to get mine working

Daughter's focus titanium tailgate trim has come off (possible attempted theft but not sure). Phoned Ford - £248 + vat for the part!! Ebay has a copy for £29.50. Main problem is it houses 2 number plate lights and electric boot release- takes a lot of strain for a rather weak component

Perhaps you could help it with a little trim-tape, or even blobs of hot glue?

What i've found is the original (Nylon?) ones are now getting very brittle after at least 17 years of road spray blowing over them and the constant heating and cooling. The shaft is also rusted on a couple of the spare parts headlights I have kicking around here and that causes it to seize where it goes through the headlight housing and force the cog to slip which makes the hole wider (See the white one in the pic for this).

The idea for a permanent solution would be to make them out of aluminium, use an aluminium adjuster internally then hopefully it would never break again. Obviously there's a very limited market for these but if it fixes my headlights permanently and if any one else has the same problem at least there is a solution.

Thanks - tried a couple of things but the strip takes the weight of the tailgate when you lift it. If I glue then potential problems if tailgate release had to be changed but with the age of car it may be I will do something like this.

The fact there is a pattern one on ebay for only a few pounds gives a hint on how common the failure might be?

Just finished replacing the adjusters in a pair of Ebay Headlights I purchased, have re-used the lenses from the failed set which are in great condition so just letting the sealant go off overnight then i'll start building them back up tomorrow.

A big thankyou to Mark for the aluminium adjusters, I'm very grateful!  :y

So I should hopefully now have headlights I can adjust 'something like' and the local MOT centre can fine tune for the MOT

....Oh and i've got 3 pairs of headlights to experiment on with the new prototype cogs when I'm allowed to use the oven again  ::) ;D
