Personality is a subjective thing, but Hamilton is inarguably one of the all time great drivers, and might just win his 4th world championship in a few days time. Murray has been tennis world number 1 for about a week.

Imo, he is the best driver since Senna, regardless of what he is driving. Most commentators judged Alonso to be the best driver in F1, when the young Hamilton came into McLaren as his team mate, and made him look very average. I don't find him arrogant, I find him a bit immature sometimes. He seems to be having his adolescence a decade late, because he wasn't able to have it when everyone else does.
There is a fine line between absolute self belief and arrogance. For me, he is the right side of that line.
