I'm working 7.30am - 7.30pm on the 25th, 26th & 27th.When the kids were young they couldnt have offered me enough money to do it, but now they are all grown up I have little interest in Christmas, so not really bothered by it.

Not quite the same but for about 5 years I did shift work at Sky, I would be on support over Christmas. When I moved to NOW TV for the first time I booked full 2 weeks over Christmas,  was brilliant! It's so good to fully switch off from work and not have to think about it.

How can you watch the telly without thinking of work?  ;D

Ah, see, I frequently don't have to "turn up".

I really should show my face in the office, not been in that office for ages.  Won't happen next week either, as I need to be in Londonium and then Brum-ish area.

First time I read this I assumed you'd retired.. now I re-read it, it sounds like you're just on holibobs so I won't congratulate you on your retirement ;D

Mate of mine is off for his assessment at Highpoint on Monday (for a guard job, not as an inmate ;D) - rather you two than me, that's for sure!

Took partial retirement in 2014 so now contracted to work 19.5 hrs per week approximately 10 days per month receive my prison service pension & also took my lump sum so a good deal , don't yet feel I am ready to retire fully would miss my colleagues & the banter.Did my control & restraint refresher a fortnight ago & the instructor who I worked with in the segregation unit many years ago passed me with the comment this 63 year old officer puts many of the younger officers to shame , and from him believe me that was quite a compliment. About 5 years ago two lads tried to mug him after he had withdrawn some cash from the hole in the wall, he advised them not to but they took no notice the outcome was hilarious according to the  bystanders.😀

My standard work rota is 12 shifts (162 hours) every four weeks. It rarely works out that way though as I volunteer to cover holidays more than the other two guys do.
They don't have the upkeep on an Omega to pay for though. In fact one of them drives a Micra, has never been married and runs a mile from overtime.
I think theres a moral in this story, somewhere.  ::) ;D

I'm like your Micra mate, although I often end up working a lot, lot more than I'm paid for, I really ain't interested in OT.

Work was starting to get a bit much so I booked a couple of days off to have a long weekend, yesterday and today. What happened? My boss called me.. "I know you're on holiday, but..."  ::) ::)

I turned off my works mobile, not that my boss knows the number ::), and only my immediate, trusted colleagues know my personal mobile and home numbers ;D

I work with a person who went to Dubai whilst suspended and argued, successfully, that he was being harassed when they tried to call him in for a disciplinary hearing... even though our contracts clearly state that if suspended you are expected to remain available during your rostered shift/hours >:(

He should have been sacked before his probation ended, yet two years later and he is basically untouchable. Even Airfield Ops have had to return his ADP even though the three offences he committed would normally cost you your ID :-X
