I had to drain down central heating to replace a part (DTM - had to replace olives as well, else it weeped), and what came out was black-ish, but also had black bits in as well.
Worth running a cleaner through, then drain again, before refilling with 2 bottles of inhibitor?

My boiler was kettling like hell this time last year, to the point that I thought it was going to jump off the wall! :o ::)
I drained it and filled it a couple of times to flush and then chucked a couple of bottles of Sentinal X200 in and it's running smoothly again! :y
Fernox F3 has also been recommended, but that's a bit more aggressive and I think you're supposed to leave that in for a day to 2 weeks max. :y I'm going to try that in a kettling boiler elsewhere. ::)

I think yours is a Potterton profile like mine?
Mine used to kettle like mad when I moved in here. Fixed a couple of leaks, fliushed and filled it up with a cleaning agent and ran it for a couple of weeks, then drained and flushed. What came out was a horrible black mess. I chuck a bottle of inhibitor in each year and it's still silent. Now 20 years old. The longer I can put off replacing it with a godawful condensing boiler the better. :y

Yeah, Suprima, with more ECU repairs than is healthy ;D
Its never kettled, though pump occasionally vibrates (and mounted desperately close to a plasterboard partition).
I'll get to shitfix and grab a bottle of sentinel x400m and run that for a couple of weeks. Already got some sentinel inhibitor from TP to put in afterwards :y

Oh, yes. Mine has had some decent 105 deg. C rated capacitors in the ECU too. ;D

As had mine... ...which helped, but not cured its reliability.
In reality, it needs a new ECU, as the PCB is now so trashed, its getting really hard to fix. Most of the tracks are pieced out with 2.5mm twin and earth, covered in solder. And there aren't many areas that aren't so badly scorched than the board doesn't feel a bit brittle

Fitting a magnaclean is certainly worth it. If you fit one, fit it somewhere easily accessible, as it needs cleaning out every year. The water circulating will stay nice and clear and all the black bits will stick to the magnets as well. Also its an easy access point to add inhibitor :y

The chilli paneer came out as hot as it went in. Was washed down with a very nice tikka massala so the afterburn was short lived... ;)

My hand is bleeding now, following an argument with that stupid Win7 PC, which I won* with my martial arts skills
*Won as in I'm broadly in one piece, it isn't. Not won as in its working now.

My last standalone TomTom was thrown out of the window at the end of the Aston Expressway ::). I never replaced it. Its predecessor was modified by Sammy.

I struggle to remember if a proper one ever has :-\, ignoring when the NCDR had a faulty laser, and wouldn't read the CD until it had all warmed up :D
