have the same problem with a 2000 elite estate. to get the nearside indicators off i have to sit in the car use the key fob to lock the car, then put the key in the ignition and start the car.
this turns then off. occasionally they come back on when driving, its a real pain. if i bought a new alarm unit would it have to be coded to the car

I had the same problem. there is a grey coloured relay up behind the passenger glovebox
part desc.
 89 96 23 - 12V 20/12A - GM 90 060 264 / VAUXHALL VECTRA/OPEL/CALIBRA

Its a bugger to get to. you may have to remove the glovebox. This relay flashes the indicators when the alarm goes off.  You CANNOT start the car with it removed as it is part of the alarm system.

Got one off ebay for a tenner.
