:o You can just imagine the sense of panic on the bridge of the ship  :o
Even worse on the actual bridge.
From the video the traffic over the bridge was fortunately exceptionally light, another 4/5 hours later it could have been a veritable disaster  :-\

Traffic had been stopped but, there was still a maintenance team who did not manage to get back in the van and away in time

It shows the downside of a single engine propulsion system, lose the engine, lose the lot!

Emergency gen will just about keep the lights on, run the control systems, steering hydraulics and charge the start air system for the main plant, not a lot else.

I knew this would be back  >:D

There are a few clues, clearly disturbing things is impacting operation, be it a wiring harness or crud in the system.

It has to be a single item related to a system around a single pot, as otherwise it would randomly be across all pots (so you can rule out pump and the like)

Cat efficiency might be a clue, if an injector was failing you would expect ether loads of fuel, a poor spray pattern (its not direct injection so not going to make a major impact here, it will still evaporate off the back of the inlet valve), or no fuel (which the Cat would not care about), might be worth checking the sparks again

Have experienced this a few times on plant and machinery, not seen it do any component damage but, you have to flush the system through and change all the filters.

Its a jelly like substance, there are biocide additive you can add to the diesel to stop it happening.

Managed to get two of the screws undone. Turns out they're actually E10 torx. The garage can fight the other two as they have a bracket stuck over them making it almost impossible to get a decent purchase on them so rather than round them off I have soaked them in oil and let them be.

Also started to investigate why the rear windows don't work. Some basic poking got the motors out and established that the motor physically turns freely and its gearbox moves without issue, as do the regulators... I did wonder if the windows had stuck in the frames, but the regulators move without issue if you manually move the windows, so frames lubed with PTFE spray.

Electrically, the switches work but there's something amiss in the door ECUs as there is a short between the two power feeds to the motor regardless of switch position which suggests a fault within the door ECUs as they contain relays  that supply the motor rather than a software issue.

Check though as door motor controls usually short the motor out when its stationary, this provides a level of motor braking and works as an E-stop if there is an issue.

My issue with the Welsh 20mph is where its done, narrow streets, loads of parked cars, schools etc, no issue, the main roads in and out and around Swansea..........no.

He is a bell end who has no interest in those who elected him, i hope he gets run over by a 3mph road roller

I blame modern cars. Remote and isolated from the outside World. Overpowered, yes, overpowered. Just why do we need top speeds of 130+ mph and 150/250 + BHP? Please explain. I would add that I've had more than my fair share of speeding tickets.

Why so little, not sure I could live long term with much less than 300 now  :'(

AT the end of the day, its not the car, its the seat wheel interface

It is indeed fun, in a slow motion kind of way. Get up to speed and dont slow down for anything is the way to drive it.  :)
That's how I drive my Fortwo Smart  ;D

That's how I drive everything  ;D

12.08....Starmer is talking about this as I type.

Full of fake outrage no doubt.  ::)  Just he sound of his voice pisses me off!  :-X

He is terminally dull.

I imagine his favourite colour is beige, and he only has sex, with himself, in the missionary position with the lights out between 7.00PM and 7.04PM every second Tuesday. :)

corrected that for you.

Fair play to the marketing bods for upselling that, but surely an EV doesn't really require actual brakes given the regenerative braking power...

And presumably if you knock it into neutral it would simply roll to a stop ::)

Yes, there doesn’t appear to be an explanation why this wasn’t possible. I was bored so I looked on the iPace forum and they’re confused why this wasn’t possible as well. I’m guessing they’d blame an electrical or software fault prevented this from happening.
I’ll have to remember the old runaway story if I’m ever unlucky enough to get pulled over again. Yes officer, the pedal was stuck to the floor for a few minutes but we’re all good now. Hmm, do you think they’d believe me.  ::) ;D

Sounds like a seat-steering wheel interface issue to me. Which isn't surprising given the standard of driving these days.

Of course, if the battery can't take any charge you have no regen braking - unless you want the aforementioned inferno. ;)

Exactly this, at full charge regen is minimal (as there is nowhere for the energy to go) so the system uses the brakes  :y

If it was a runaway then a clapped out cop car would not have stopped the 400bhp of the iPace  ;D

Or just torch it, it is a cylinder short of tolerable already  ;D

Just move the injector to test first, try not to introduce more unknowns, it might well be clogged, modern petrol injection setups don't have filters and if it was the filter, it would result in multiple misfires and would likely idle ok (when fuel demand is low), and not rev up.  :y

Serious issues with EV’s, whether hyped up by the press or genuine issues, have done nothing to help sales either. We’ve had battery fires by self igniting cars and now we have software brake failure and vehicles getting stuck at speed and unable to stop. Not a great selling point is it.

The brake issue appears to be the owners doing (the Cheshire case), fully charged car (so minimal regen)........and a recent full brake upgrade with new callipers, discs etc....

......not that the press are highlighting that  :y

I am guessing that is the original box Granada from 70s/early 80s?
