Clearing out the house continues. Got a four foot stack of old VW magazines that I inherited somewhere and have never opened most of them. Performance VW, Ultra VW, Volkszone, Camper/ Commercial.

They'll be off to the tip if not collected by someone so if anyone knows anyone then shout up...

As title - anyone needs them, give me a shout

No bulbs or holders.

General Discussion Area / Mr A Allbright
« on: 09 December 2023, 07:39:19 »
New project has arrived. 2000W plate V6 special in Persia Red (and rust. Mainly rust). It was owned by 2woody, formerly of this parish... But in the glovebox is a letter to a Mr Allbright who I presume was the first civvy owner.

Just curious if he's a member on here...?

Omega General Help / Did the roof aerial change places with the DBW?
« on: 09 December 2023, 07:33:44 »
I've just acquired another project... W plate 3.0 special. It's as rough as a badger's backside but as I peered admiringly out of the upstairs window I realised it has a grommet in the front centre of the roof... But nothing at the back end at all, no aerial, grommet, or lump of filler.

Both my 03 Special and my old 02 civvy spec had a little one at the back of the roof.

Did they change between the model years, or was the little one an option? I assume the grommet is covering where the aerial for some bit of plod kit was precisely and carefully fitted.

Yes I live a FASCINATING life.

General Car Chat / Fuel hose - careful now!
« on: 04 November 2023, 15:01:01 »
I know it's common knowledge by now but you really can't be too careful. I appear to have been caught out buying supposed fuel hose online, despite it being from a reputed seller. Can't see which because it's lost in the history files.

The "fuel hose" I fitted to Zeke less than 18 months ago has completely and utterly perished so I hve a wonderful flammable fountain going on under the back end... Haven't driven him for at least 6 months but charged the battery, turned him over and got dizzyingly high but no engine.

It's the last time I buy fuel hose from anywhere the staff aren't physically available for a good shoeing!

Just arrived in what I believe is called "The South" and outside our hotel is a rare silver Omega... Anyone on here? :D

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Wtd: FL plastic ashtray cover
« on: 27 January 2023, 08:46:07 »
Anyone got the above? Unfussed on what colour as it'll be getting painted into Attractive Ex-Plod Sparkly Grey like the rest of the trim, because I am a chav.

Trying to sort out my Basra-inspired spare room.

V6 aircon compressor and pipework, weren't working when removed from 2003 V6, maybe meed a strip and new seals. Probably not just a regas ;)

Also what I think are a pair of lower manifold heat shields for a V6, decent nick, I was just to lazy to refit them.

PM with a number and I can WhatsApp pics if needed.

Free collection from the cultural centre of Teesside, postage for the cmpressor will be  bit hefty but happy to package if someone arranges a courier.

General Car Chat / Decent garage near Harpenden?
« on: 29 December 2022, 10:14:21 »
Now strangers, hope we are all well.

Mate is in Harpenden with a "strange noise" on his steering. I was going to recommend he pop into WIM 15 minutes away but as they are no longer trading...

Anyone know a decent place to get it on a ramp and find the fault? Its a newish hatchback, Ibiza maybe.

General Car Chat / Hot Rod Diner, Northfleet
« on: 13 August 2022, 20:40:18 »
When you find an unexpected dining place... And it turns out to be magnificent

Hot Rod Diner, High St, Northfleet. Amazing food, reasonable price, great service and milkshakes you can actually drink rather than needing a shovel. Cheesy 50s charm and great atmosphere.

Don't tell MrsGK but the ladies working there weren't hard to look at either .

The only downside is Northfleet seems quite stabby, even for someone who used to live in Middlesbrough... :D

Omega General Help / Front caliper mounting bolt size
« on: 04 August 2022, 20:10:30 »
Having just had a brown trouser moment, I'm now in need of a front caliper mounting bolt.

What size are they, thread and length?

And anywhere in Norfolk/ Suffolk recommended to get a new one tomorrow? If a standard size then I can head to Screwfix but I'd prefer a fastener shop...

No, I'm not happy, I don't know if I've left it loose or if something has gone wrong. Either way I'll be crawling about check every single bolt tomorrow. Live and learn!

Omega General Help / Power steering hose - lower reservoir.
« on: 30 July 2022, 15:25:25 »
Naturally Ezekiel couldn't be happy with an MOT pass and decided to make a show of himself on my mother's drive.

I've found a PAS fluid leak from the hose connecting to the lower pipe on the reservoir - the one bit of pipe I didnt examine and it has partially perished.

My brain says if I chop the metal pipe a bit further down then I can fit an olive and compression fitting, onto a hose to replace the perished bit. If I do this will it simply explode and launch the fitting into a low orbit... Or is the pressure low enough thatthat will be fine?

When I had it all apart I took it to the local hydraulic hose specialist who looked at me like I'd brought him something from another planet... So that's out

General Car Chat / HUGE thank you to you lot
« on: 28 July 2022, 17:32:01 »
Well this morning, the ex plod passed its MOT with flying colours. I can't begin to list how much work it's taken, and how many hours when I should have been sleeping or dping adult things.

I've had to learn some new skills (AD, also of this parish, being the man who's taught me to weld and given me the confidence to do it. Hello new inner wing panels!)

Genuinely think this is the best car forum, and definitely the best one-model forum. The amount of knowledge Ive borrowed from here is immense... The cambelt DVD alone is a lifesaver, but having people who know these cars inside and out has been invaluable.

If i try to list everyone by name then I'm sure to forget some, so generally thank you to all.

Wheel alignment booked for tomorrow and then we are just about there.

One down, five project cars to go...! :D

Omega General Help / Black sill trims - fittings
« on: 26 July 2022, 16:37:56 »
Trying to find a source of new plugs for the plain black trims that sit on the ills, inside the doors.

I've searched low, high, middling, down a bit and sideways but can't find any of them.

Last time I had it in the bodyshop they simply resealed the bits where rhe plugs were broken, but this is my last resort...

The plugs are the diddy white ones that slot into the underside of the trims, then push into the holes in the sill so I can't just use one from my big box of push clips. :(

As above... My careful placing of the loom as I was putting everything together means I've tucked the headlight level sensor out of the way. Where does it come out of the loom, so I stand a chance of finding it? :y
