Omega General Help / Heard metallic clink on sharp corner
« on: 08 July 2018, 23:09:16 »
Hi Guys

2.6 02 saloon

Was cornering right hand bend the other day, it's a short sharp one, more of a sort of L bend for a mway on ramp, and took it a bit "keen" and then heard what I can only describe as a metallic clink sound, the noise was more "outside" rather than hearing it through the cabin; I had window down so heard it clearly outside. Haven't inspected anything as of yet and don't see anything visual like sagging from broken spring or anything, nor is handling any different or any other noises apparent, so going to have a look. Anyone had a similar experience and found what it was, or suggestions what to check etc.

Thanks

G

Omega General Help / Drain torque converter
« on: 04 July 2018, 07:39:23 »
I am thinking of changing box oil soon and reading the guide seen that only 5 litres got removed from a possible 8. Does tc also have a drain plug? Don't see point in leaving 3 litres of old oil in there.

General Discussion Area / Odd goings on with new PC
« on: 28 June 2018, 19:35:38 »
I've just inherited a Packard Bell M3700 integrated desktop, basically a big screen with a computer inside. It has this on screen touchpad thing which I don't need and it sits quietly in the top corner of the screen. It also has this peculiar problem where the mouse is jumping about the screen, right clicking and doing weird stuff. It also seems to change the tabs and if I am typing the cursor just disappears as if it had clicked off the screen' it's happened about 8 times while typing this. It also seemed to refresh this page when I was typing this out so had to type all again.

I've tried virus/malware scan, done all the updates, checked another mouse, turned off all the usual guff that was running in the background and it is still doing it. I even tried running in safe mode but was still doing it. I am going to try running virus scan in safe mode as I had that before on another PC where the virus could hide itself from the scanner in normal windows mode.

In the meantime any other things I can check?

Cheers

G

Omega General Help / Air con low pressure pipe hot
« on: 24 May 2018, 22:22:37 »
Hi, i've got a good pressure in my AC now and compressor kicked in but 1) no cool air and 2) the low pressure pipe is quite warm to touch, the HP pipe is burning, I know the HP gets hot but I don't think it should be burning hot and the LP should be cold. Any thoughts?

Omega General Help / Creak sound back
« on: 21 May 2018, 07:19:02 »
Occassionally get a creak sound from back end if for instance reversing into drive and on a bit of an angle or manouvering slowly on a twisty bit of road, i.e. camber a bit off from front to back. Is it doughnut bushes perhaps starting to go?

« on: 10 May 2018, 13:32:50 »
When i came back to my car today the hazards were flashing, when i unlocked it they stopped, but then started when i opened door. Is this a sign of something about to go tits up? I also notice if i unlock car with key they flash, then go out when ignition on, this is a seperate issue i dont know if related to first, as that just happened today.

General Discussion Area / accessing car's computer tech2
« on: 27 April 2018, 13:36:16 »
I've read about every tech2 question in forum and still not sure exactly what it is you need. So starting with software, i know there is a lot of vendors, downloads, ones people are saying might work, or only work with certain cables certain operating systems, ones that can reset codes, ones that cant, ones that can read live data and not etc. etc.

I've got to a point where i've ordered a kit off ebay as i really dont know what it is i need, so bought a cheap 19 pound kit with cd, adapter cable.

I do have access to software from 0p com but hadn't a clue what cable i needed or an adapter. Can anyone clear up  what i actually need, i've a 64 bit laptop, not sure if it's got serial port,  if that is what i need, it has the other port with more pins, and of course usb ports. I want something that i can read live data and diagnose any sensor issues, both out of a diagnostic perspective and interest.

Thanks

Andrew

Omega General Help / torque convertor lock up
« on: 20 April 2018, 10:37:53 »
On my old senator A, and my current senny B you feel the TC lock about 60 65 does the omega box do the same? I certainly cant feel anything or a noticeable drop in revs. It's 2.6 02 plate i have. I believe this gives a mechanic lock between engine and box.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / dimmer for dash flickering
« on: 03 April 2018, 10:42:49 »
Oddly enough this happened when giving the car a bit of a tanking, realised it was probably just the Gs doing it, but when you roll the wheel up and down it doesn't dim, just flickers a bit. Guessing need to take light switch unit out and give the pot a dash of WD?

General Discussion Area / Can you do this other role too?
« on: 12 March 2018, 07:46:14 »
Had the director of our department approach me and in a roundabout waffly way, ask me if i can fill a role that someone just left, because i already have experience in that team. Claims it will mean that they wont have to advertise and train someone up (cheapskates) and that their budget is "challenging".

Im happy in the role i do and this role is more a information analyst building reports, my current role is more techy, which i like. Apparently i wont have a say in it because contract hasn't changed, and it says any other work deemed necessary for the organisation (public sector, healthcare) guess who?

Anyone been in a similar situation and how to approach this? My manager said they found it a bit of a shock as they never knew until last minute but said they got to work with resources they got. Boss said you probably notice when someone retires or leaves they dont replace, as they got cack all money left.
