General Car Chat / CV joint
« on: 31 March 2022, 09:55:39 »
Any way of telling without dismantling if the inner CV joint on a fwd car is shot? There is rotational noise and a vibration through the car noticeable at speeds above about 15 mph[could still be present at slower speed but not as noticeable]and seems to get slightly less on left hand bends.Could also I suppose be the support bearing on the offside drive shaft? Have tried driving in circles at low speeds listening for clicking and none present so don't think it's an outer CV joint.Car is a Volvo C70 petrol with a manual 'box.

Amid all the dross that is Christmas TV there is a programme on More4 tonight at 7.55 called The Plane That Saved Britain[ok the programme may be a repeat and the subject in relation to the title debatable/arguable]about the "Wooden Wonder" or if you prefer the DeHavilland Mosquito.

General Discussion Area / Record confirmed
« on: 11 November 2021, 20:16:29 »
A couple of years or so ago I along with my step daughter and her two young granddaughters went to Bruntingthorpe in my V70 to take part in a world record attempt for greatest number of Volvo cars in a parade. This attempt was disallowed and a second attempt was organised for last year at Elvington this was postponed due to the pandemic and took place this year instead. We again took part and now the world record has been confirmed at 800 cars all in single file all moving at once not more than 2 metres apart over a two mile course.Apart from the achievement of the record the events combined raised £37,000 for the British heart Foundation :y :y

General Discussion Area / Appointment
« on: 16 September 2021, 21:47:13 »
Finally after nearly 3 months got an appointment on 1st October for an "urgent" angiogram.Dependant on what that shows I may have to have an angioplasty[stents put in]which apparently they may do there and then or they may pack me off home and make yet another appointment to go back and have that done.Apparently the angiogram takes 30 to 40 minutes and I'll be in hospital for 4 to 5 hours!

General Discussion Area / Any way round this?
« on: 26 August 2021, 09:58:43 »
Had a notification to say my g.mail account settings are out of date.Click on "fix now" and a box appears with g.mail address click next or continue[I forget which]and it then requests my password, enter that and another box appears saying windows/microsoft want access to my account in order to be able to edit/delete/send e-mails,delete contacts etc and a few other things.Scroll down and it has boxes to either accept or cancel that click on cancel and it shuts the whole process down and goes back to my screen saver. Why should I allow them access to my account to-at least it seems-do as they please with it? Is there any way to update my account without allowing this?

General Car Chat / Can it be driven?
« on: 11 August 2021, 17:54:28 »
I've never owned a diesel so not paid any real attention to them, but a mate is thinking of buying one[it's cheap] only trouble is it's a goodly distance away and has a blown intercooler so the question is can it be driven any kind of distance in this state without damaging other things[like the turbo]or wrecking itself?

Valentino Rossi-arguably the greatest MotoGP rider of all time- has announced that at the age of 42 and after 21years of competing in the series he will retire at the end of this season.Been a big fan of his since he started in the 125cc class back in 1996,although realistically I think he should have retired a few seasons ago-but he was enjoying it so why not carry on? It would be nice, although not probable to see him get at least one more podium position before the season end to make his 200th career podium. He will of course continue to be in the paddock as boss of his teams.

General Car Chat / ABS module
« on: 27 July 2021, 10:03:27 »
Starting this instead of cluttering the "what have you done.."thread any more.
Story so far. N/s/r caliper seized[new one bought] removing old caliper resulted in caliper to flexi hose brake pipe snapping and also end of that pipe not coming out of end of flexi hose,so new parts bought and fitted.Bleeding the brakes in the normal way resulted-after several hours of trying :o-in a trickle of fluid from the bleed nipple and a brake pedal only just off the floor.Next visit to the car and the brake pedal went to the floor and no fluid would come out of the bleed nipple or the brake pipe at the caliper ??? Pressure bleeder purchased which resulted in reservoir filling up and pressure forcing fluid back out of reservoir but none at caliper end >:(Master cylinder seems to be working correctly so either air is trapped in abs unit or the unit is fubar.I've yet to try reverse bleeding. If air is trapped in abs how do I get it out[assuming reverse bleeding doesn't do it]? If I need a replacement abs unit do all the numbers etc have to match and how do I make sure no air gets trapped in that when swapping them over? I have seen 3 used ones on e-bay,one from a 3.2 one from a 2.0 and one from a 2.2 diesel, while they look the same as mine[at least the 3.2 one and the diesel one do]the numbers and two big letters on the top are different.

..at Jaguar XJ's as I quite fancy having another[the one I had was a '95 X300]so I'm thinking 2003 on X350.Seen an '06 plate 2.7 TDVI Sovereign on the bay at a traders 150 odd thousand miles on it and was pretty interested in that until I found out that they've had it a couple of years and the last MoT ran out in June 2019 and all the while they've been advertising it for just over £3,000 :D
