General Car Chat / Rapier
« on: 04 October 2020, 12:28:43 »
Out on the dog walk this morning I saw an E reg Sunbeam Rapier parked on the driveway of a house. It looked to be in beautiful nick although the alloy wheels it was wearing to my eyes didn't suit it at all,nor did the twin exhaust pipes sticking out of the rear down the centreline of the car. However the small chromed V8 badge affixed to the boot lid might make up for those drawbacks if it held to be true.

Had my 12yr old great granddaughter in the car today when one of my Mozart CDs began playing. She asked what/who it was and I told her Mozart and that it was music from a very long time ago,she considered this for a moment or two and then said "Oh,from the 1970s then" :D Oh to be so innocent again!

General Discussion Area / What's going on?
« on: 10 September 2020, 21:09:43 »
When I first signed in to the forum tonight and clicked on a topic the screen went blank and then said something about a change of network then the forum pages came back on.Next I went to reply to an E-mail from my son and it came across the top of the screen that a download was in progress and if I replied then it might be incomplete.Anyone any ideas as to what gives here, what change of network?what download?

General Discussion Area / Photo today

My son who lives not far from San Francisco has today sent me a photo of the apartment complex where he and his family live. The entire complex is tinged Orange from the wild fires.I'm hoping that if it comes to it[if it hasn't already-I'm waiting to hear back from him now]that they can evacuate safely.

Omega General Help / Exact opposite
« on: 09 September 2020, 21:28:57 »
Reading of a couple of members whose radiator fans don't come on I have the opposite problem. All three fans start up on slow speed at the same time and don't turn off until after the ignition is turned off.I know they're supposed to run for a short time after ignition off so they're working in that way,it's just that once started up they don't turn off as though they're not cooling the engine enough to stop them, but nor does it seem to get hot enough for the fans to go to high speed.Fan test shows fans reacting as they should. It's a year 2000 F/L 3.0L by the way.

General Discussion Area / Getting off his bike
« on: 24 August 2020, 08:20:10 »
Last weeks MotoGP round at the Redbullring saw both Vinales and Rossi very nearly wiped out by two crashed motorbikes bouncing across the track around them. This weeks round saw a return to the same venue and at the end of a straight the front brake on Vinales' Yamaha "exploded".Knowing he obviousl wasn't going to make the corner and couldn't slow/stop the bike before it inevitably hit the air fencing he jumped off the bike at 130/140mph!!! happily he slid to a halt unhurt while his bike hit the air fence bursting it and promptly caught fire.I realise that staying with the bike and crashing could/would have been disastrous but it must still take some doing to deliberately launch yourself off the bike at that kind of speed.

General Car Chat / Meriva MKII
« on: 03 August 2020, 22:34:24 »
Step daughter has a 12 plate Meriva MKII with a 1.4 non-turbo petrol engine. This evening she phoned and said that she was on the car park of a local supermarket where she'd been shopping for an hour and when she got back to the car and turned the ignition on the temp gauge went straight into the red zone[before she'd started the engine] I went and had a quick look,no coolant loss to speak of[just a tiny leak from the temperature sender]The sender itself can be rotated in the thermostat housing without any effort at all-surely that's not right is it?-basically you can flick it with your finger tip and it'll move. She's ordered a new sender unit for tomorrow[she's borrowed my V70 to get herself to work and back]are the thermostat housing know to crack around the hole where the sender fits? The sender looks to be held in only by a metal clip. The engine says Ecotec on top and the thermostat bolts to the right hand end of the engine.

Now I've changed to new Edge[from Explorer] there is a message that appears on the same line as the OOF address that says it's not secure. This doesn't happen on any other site I use.Is there something I can do to make it secure-if so what?-or is it a case of that's how it is?

Marc Marquez will not race in tomorrows round of the series after breaking his upper arm bone in last weeks round. He had an operation on Tuesday to plate and pin it and took part in todays free practice before it was decided it was too much too soon.Meanwhile Cal Crutchlow broke his Scaphoid in last weeks race, had it screwed on Tuesday and has qualified on the grid for tomorrow as has Alex Rins who dislocated his shoulder and cracked his upper arm bone as well as soft tissue damage. These guys are really made of strong stuff.

General Discussion Area / E-mails
« on: 10 July 2020, 09:04:00 »
Just of late I've been getting a fair number of e-mails all seem to come from someone different[all with foreign Scandanavian sounding ]names. Most of these are thanking me for my loyalty to Aldi and Morrisons and offering the chance to get £250 of vouchers by clicking on the link or to stop getting the e-mails to click on another link. One was to tell me that I'd won second prize[a Galaxy S20]in a competition I'd entered 4 mths ago and to click on the link to claim the prize or click on a different link to stop getting the e-mail.I've just been deleting the lot of them without clicking on any links.Anyone else getting similar e-mails?

General Car Chat / A misprint surely?
« on: 02 July 2020, 15:04:53 »
Read an article today that Jaguar Classic have brand new 3.8L[as fitted to S1 E-type XK 150 Mk IX Mk X etc]engine blocks for sale. Each comes with a 12mth warranty and a certificate of authenticity. The price quoted in the article is £14,340 each inc. VAT.Surely that kind of money for a bare engine block has to be a misprint doesn't it?
