Omega General Help / oil breather housing removal
« on: 24 May 2022, 07:36:30 »
Hi

Is it easy to remove this, wanted to remove it for cleaning. I'm imagining is it a scuttle off job? no 1 part here:

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Amber indicator bulbs
« on: 01 May 2022, 15:12:49 »
Hi

Needing to replace the rear indicator bulbs as they're almost clear of the amber coating, is it just a standard amber indicator bulb I need, any specific code for them?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Diff Refurb/Removal
« on: 22 April 2022, 05:05:19 »
Hi All

When I was out last night I was sure I could hear the diff a bit more than I usually do, I do have selective hearing so it may be that (!). It's not at the stage yet that you always heard the car coming before you seen it, like the carltons were famous for.

The diff pinion is leaking and I was thinking rather than try and do that myself, a job I've never done, and I don't have proper ramps (to give me the leverage length for purchase to remove the pinion nut), I was thinking wouldn't it be easier to just drop the diff out and send it to a machine shop to get new bearings and seals, is it easy enough to remove or is it a subframe out jobby?

Imagine with the continual low oil level that the bearings are probably worth replacing anyway.

Cheers

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Wrong drivers door mirror
« on: 22 March 2022, 17:50:23 »
Just recently bought a silver door mirror to replace the one on my elite 02 plate. The mirror casing was ok, it was the mirror itself was shot, and I thought easier just to swap with one with the proper blind spot bend in it.

Took mirror off and noticed the spare one only had five terminals in the little plug, the original has looks like all of them in use - nine of them. The replacement mirror has a little icon showing it is heated so I thought maybe that was what was missing originally.

The part number on the back of both mirror alloy mounts is: 08155463

I can't seem to find that number on the vx part catalogs

Anyone know what the difference is with the wiring since part numbers look the same?

Just wondering if the wiring was changed at some point and maybe they'd redesigned it, but it's got all the same functions.

Thanks

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / A/C Filler Valve
« on: 14 March 2022, 06:58:11 »
I'm going to ovehaul the A/C on my 3.2 and noticed on a simple gas up that the fill valve is leaking (Spit works wonders!) so decided to get a replacement. From looking in here I am sure the part number is 13277003 but they're all in US/AUS. Any known suppliers of these in UK or anyone on here got a spare one for sale?

Thanks

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Radio comes on really loud
« on: 22 February 2022, 08:08:22 »
Hi

Every time I start my 2.6 facelift the radio comes on extremely loud, any ideas why?

Seems to be after I reconnect the battery and start, does this reset the radio to "on" as it is in storage just now and connect up battery to start it up.

Cheers

General Discussion Area / Best impact gun
« on: 09 January 2022, 09:49:28 »
I was looking at getting an impact gun one of these battery ones, can anyone recommend a good all round one that doesn't cost the earth? Say something around 200-250 with 1/2" drive.

If I had the cash I'd probably buy the milwaukee M18 which has up to 800nm torque but it's pricey, costs anything from 500 upwards.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Bearing worn but no play just a ticking noise
« on: 18 December 2021, 19:43:06 »
Decided to have a look at the front bearing today, and general front end inspection.

On the driver side, there was slight play at quarter to 3, but not up and down, noticed the track rod is worn so that'll be that.

Then passenger side the wheel has no play but theres a speed related clicking sound as I rotate the wheel. I'm suspecting that's the bearing but there's no play. I had read this can happen i.e. there is no play even when it's worn. Has anyone else found this with a worn bearing?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / EML Light and no fault code
« on: 21 November 2021, 01:13:15 »
This is on my elite, 02 plate, the EML came on, I thought ok the usual 02 sensor light, but upon using simple code reader there is no faults showing. Not the spanner light, the engine light is the one illuminated. I had read on the old forum someone mentioned it was something to do with the cat sensors being on the wrong way. I'e not really had the time yet to fully check this out, wondering if this could be the problem or something else?

Omega Gallery / Just Bought an Elite
« on: 16 November 2021, 20:14:34 »
Not happy with one Omega, a senator and a couple of cavaliers, and always fancying an elite, I decided to buy this:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/877TfdSKMb3xNfRv9

89k Miles, partial dealer service history up to about 50k, not done too many miles each year, timing belt: was told it was changed 5 Years ago but no reciepts but there is one for it done at dealer...in 2011.. so I was a bit nervous driving it back 400 miles. also hoping things like the aux belt didn't go after having had very little use.

It behaved impeccably on the drive back, only things I noticed from my check over before buying is lights a bit faded, a little bit of crust starting on rear arches, clunking from F/N/S sounds like a roll bar link, and a slight speed related whine/droan although seemed to go away at 70 odd.

Couple of small dents on chassis leg where it'd probably been jacked by some teenager in a tyre shop plus EML light popped on about 250 miles in, likely the old cat sensor that I also have on my 2.6.

Looks like it's had a touch up on the top of N/S/F wing, paint got spots on it, like acne!

Pretty impressed by the rear electric blind, had a bit of time on the way back to play about with the multi-function display thing, totally different to the one on my 2.6. Couldn't reset the average mpg, it was at 24 when I left and slowly started incrementing up by 0.1 increments to 25, but calculating the fuel I used and miles I got around about 35mpg on trip back.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / alarm or not?
« on: 21 October 2021, 14:02:30 »
Was speaking to a guy recently about getting a replacement key fob, and he'd asked does it have an alarm, immediately I thought well Yes, since I've reoved the power sounder and the hazards flash if I jack the car or open bonnet when it's locked, but he asked does it have sensors inside. Going by my cavalier diplomat which has those movement sensors up top of the B pillar, like little built in microphones, I though it woud have, but it doesn't seem to.

So is there different types of alarms on the omega, the guy said some dont have the sensors, so what does it have if that's not an alarm?

Omega General Help / Brakes getting spongy again
« on: 22 August 2021, 17:34:36 »
Not that long ago I put new front discs and pads and had rebuilt the rears with new discs and pads and pin set. I changed the fluid as well and bled with one of those one way valves. Brakes were brilliant, now they are starting to feel quite spongy again, like they way they were before when I hadn't bled them correctly. Pedal travel is getting further down and the bite they had is gone.

Any idea why they might be getting spongy again, the fluid is up to level - hasn't dropped - and all the serviceable items are only recently replaced.

Cheers

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Car pass
« on: 09 August 2021, 18:01:38 »
Hi

Anyone know how to get the car pass, need it for new key? I read a guide using "My Naff Code Reader", which I have but didn't fancy the part about mucking about with the ECU to extract a hex code from the guts of the set up files. Other than that would stealership have this info now?

Thanks
Andrew
