I'm looking for new keys fob with the little ECU in it as I'm getting sick of these keys buttons not working, one I just had soldered a few months ago has went already.

I was looking at this:

I know a garage here local who has tech 2 so is it a case of buying the above then getting them to tech 2 it?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Solar sensor low output

Just had my AC fully vac'd and refilled after replacing the condensor, today noticed it's not working, the compressor not kicking on when you turn off eco. Checked pressure looks fine, comp still able to turn ok. Put "My Naff Code Reader" on it and got low solar sensor output left and right.

Would that be why it is not working? Cleared codes wondering if that might give me a clue but still no chilled air.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Cooling fan always on

I've not got an issue with this but wanted to check how you can do a temp short to keep the cooling fan on, i.e. in case a relay or sensor went duff and you needed to bridge the fan(s) on until you get it repaired.

Looked at the diagram to see what connectors it might be to short, would it be two of the connectors on the relay?

Omega General Help / A question on radiator numbers 2.6

Having a Sunday night vauxhall part number OCD event!

Checking the part number 52482602, which is on my radiator on the top right as you look at it, this part number is not listed anywhere I can see, and the numbers listed for rads used with air con are, as in link:

The number in the URL link seems to be like a base number, closer to the number on my rad,not sure if these numbers superceded the older number or what, any ideas?

Omega General Help / Ashtray Bust

Plugging in an air compressor this morning to check my tyres, and sure I heard something crack when I was putting in the plug into fag socket.

Noticed the fag socket section was moving up and down, so tried to close lid, and it wouldn't completely shut.

I noticed a few posts said remove the ashtray binnacle as if you emptying it, and you'll see a screw, I see none of that, I then decided to do my "Clarkson" move and just pull the thing out, as all my other ashtrays have done, and it popped out. Loandbehold there is about 2mm of slack on the cable on the back.

I've got the wood section off the front as well, and now all my fettling about trying to locate it back onto what I think are the guides it now seems to be stuck half in half out.

Timing belt - no problem, Ashtray - Forget it!

What do I need to jiggle (nothing personal) to remove/fix/relocate it properly or is it fubared?

Omega General Help / Aux belt tensioner seems loose

Hi

Just recently done timing belt and new aux belt, done the re-grease of the aux belt tensioner as per video, seemed ok. Now I had a look at the other day and the little wheel seems a bit slack, and also can see a shadow of lube on one edge of it. I also noticed there is a section on the side of the new aux belt that looks like it has rubbed off a bit. might be a coincidence.

Is it maybe the little dust covers came off and grease escaped?

General Discussion Area / Car parts from EU/Germany

Hello

I've seen a few parts in fleabay Germany for my Senny, trouble is the guy won't ship to UK, well, he didn't say he won't but said he hasn't tried since Brexit and left it at that, I thought maybe that's code for pee off, but he's got other parts that will ship to the UK

. I've had parts shipped from Holland few Months ago, no issue apart from the VAT bill from DHL.

Anyone found a way to get round this like using a EU based freight forwarding address?

Omega General Help / Vac lines

After putting everything back together I decided to have a good look at the vac lines. I'm not sure if this is right but from the brake servo the diagram is showing what looks like another pipe going straight to the front multi ram (MR) actuator on the passenger side, but the pipes from the vac tank go to the rear multi-ram and the brake servo, nothing from servo goes to any of the front MR at least directly. On the front bagpipe thingy I can see front drivers side MR valve right at the radiator, and a white pipe goes from that to the one on the back, looks like a sensor, am I right that the sensor on the back is something to do with the other MR actuator as I can't see that chamber valve thing anywhere else.

I don't know if I'm actually looking at, or can see, the front MR left hand actuator as on the diagram, and if it's connected up properly. I done a video that might help explain and show what I'm looking at.

Omega General Help / Coolant Part Number and drain plug

Hi

Realise this has probably been asked a lot but having a trawl through the site I can't find a part number for the red coolant. Also got a bit confused about this dex cool stuff, I see this on fleabay, and also other stuff, is it not dexcool you want but the other stuff - other stuff didn't say dexcoll specifically but need to confirm via part number or equivalent?

Also snapped my coolant drain plug, put up a wanted, but if anyone knows where I can get these, or anyone has one? Is the black one ok to use, as mine was red colour?

Omega General Help / Air con compressor slight play

Just noticed the air con compressor has a slight "clunk" when I rock the pulley top to bottom, you can't see any movement more just feel it. Is that the beginning of the end or is it something easy to fix, or leave alone?

Ok, so I've read over most of the stuff I can find on here about the timing belt kits, including Chrisp from the cavalier forum's (which I am a member) post:

Just to make sure I am understanding this right:

I've bought kit K015453XS and I understand this is a 2.5 kit (mine's a 2.6 02 plate), but you can swap the tensioner and upper idler from your old backplate to the new one?

Reason I ask is on the old plate, the distance between the idler and tensioner is greater than the new plate, the code on my old plate is 6B, the new one is EB. I also need to use the yellow marking on the belt to line up the crank pulley (there's a white double line and yellow double line near each other on belt), and white markings on the left bank of cams and a mix of white and yellow marks on the right bank of cams.

Omega General Help / Reinstalling famous B(stard) bolt

Hi

I'm trying to reinstall the bolt on the side of the block that holds the coolant to stat pipe in, apart from the gnashing of teeth, swearing, spitting, I thought i had finally got the pipe dispstick and engine lift plate lined up, confirmed by my illuminated mirror, and running a small screwsdriver into it to roughly aligh it all. I started running the bolt in and felt it catch, but then it started going in at an angle, leaning towards the bulkhead, I carefully kept going with a 10mm spanner, ready to stop if it felt to be suddently getting tight, which it started doing. I removed the bolt and it looked ok, didn't look as if it was cross threading.

Tried again and the same thing happened. Has anyone else found this issue whilst putting the bolt back in?

God what a nightmare that thing is!

Omega General Help / Things to check while doing belt and oil breathers

I'm doing a bit of maintenance on the 2.6, got TB to do, and as I'm doing this (4 Years are up, not done 40k since last change) I've decided to change the condenser as, while there's no evidence of leaks all the fins are falling out of it, and I think the cooling performance isn't the best it could be.

While I'm in there I'm going to do all the rocker gaskets, thermostat, clean out the breathers and whatever else I find within reason. I'm wondering about a few things though, the inlet manifold gaskets seals, are they worth changing now, as they looked a little oily, probably oil floating about the inlet manifold, I'm thinking it might have leaked out as I removed the manifold but can't be sure.

My biggest question though is the oil cooler, I was looking at maybe is it worth changing now, do they fail that often or are they only once in a blue moon type failures, at much higher miles (I'm about 87k) granted I looked at the cost, nearly 400 bucks for an original vx one. Are they easy enough to check. I've got the inlet off and can't see any sign of it yet, is it under the lower section between the V?

Also is it worth changing the crank oil seal, no sign of leaks mind you but I'm just wondering if it starts leaking a year or so later, I'm taking all this shit out again just for a silly seal.

This, and what else might I be worth changing/checking while I'm in there.
