Managed to get a code out of this it was p0088 common rail high pressure. According to the kia forum this points to a replacement inlet metering valve:

https://www.kiaownersclub.co.uk/threads/p0088-inlet-metering-valve-replacement-guide.47513/#post-307773

Looks like a moderate job to do. Also read people have replaced this and the EML still illuminated, think this was with other codes though p0087/p0088 low and high pressure, guy ended up doing a back leak and the injectors were goosed.

Strange that code seems to clear itself but the light was still illuminated at one point, and you have to drive it and give it a bit of welly before the light pops on (After it's been turned off and sat for a while).

Omega General Help / Re: Condenser Removal
« on: 17 January 2021, 13:52:52 »
Good guide, that makes sense. I wrapped some kitchen towel round the cooler connection with elastic band so it would soak up any drippage and keep the seals intact. Starting from step 4 next round when I get my arse in gear.

While this is all off the Timing Belt is due so will do that and clean out the breathers. Also going to check/change the rockers gaskets, check plugs, and hopefully change the stat as well. Think it's a bit lazy.

Got another wee query about this. I stripped off the top cover above rad, took out the air trunking in front of the radiator, and the 2 bolts out of the pipe manifold thing that connects to the autobox cooler. Looking at it though I can't quite figure out how you remove all this, do I need to take the cooling radiator out first, and work from there towards the front of the car? Reason I ask is the cooler thing for the autobox seems to bolt onto the sides of the radiator opening on the front panel, but would rad lift clear of that ok? I'm struggling to see how you get in at the bolts that secure the autobox cooler as they are between radiator and condenser, so even with the rad out of the way, I still need to get in at the front to loosen these.

Transmission fluid cooler. Easy to remove. Just plug the ends of the pipes and elevate them to stop all the fluid syphoning out.

Ah right, makes sense now Thanks

Omega General Help / Condenser Removal

I started taking the plastic cover off the radiator today to look at the condenser with a view to removing and replacing it.

Something I've noticed on this and I don't seem to see on the guide at http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90559.0 or in the part diagram https://opel.7zap.com/en/car/v94/c/7/23-0/ is inbetween the rad and condenser there seems to be what looks like another small radiator or air-con unit with 2pipes that go off to the drivers side and down behind the light.

Check video out where I point out where the unit is and the pipes above it.

https://youtu.be/1H2D9eQPW7I

Any ideas what this is and does it come out with the main condenser. I've looked at my condenser that I got new and it is only the main large unit I have.

Thanks

Yes it is 2.2 or 2.9 with variable geometry turbo, if it’s quite high mileage or been used for mostly short trips then it’s my guess it’s dirty carbonised vanes in the turbo which can throw up the eml light and put it into limp mode. Many try to clean them their selves but it doesn’t really work and if it does it doesn’t last long, get it properly diagnosed👍 Could be air flow meter but these don’t normally show an eml.

I'd say a mix of urban/mway driving and mileage is not huge but I think it's maybe in the 100,000s range. I've said to him to get it diagnosed before doing anything else. Thanks

General Car Chat / Kia Sedona Various Problems
« on: 03 January 2021, 23:08:06 »
Hi

I am trying to help my neighbour with his Kia Sedona 56 plate, it is really slow on pick up and has various issues, including engine light/ABS light and glow plug light flashing, he uses it as a works van basically, going to jobs to do kitchen installs and has used it for years with just basic maintenance as and when needed.

He has traditionally used a local well-recommended garage for MOT, plus a relative he's since fell out with to do repairs etc. and so I mentioned to go and get all the codes read out, apparently the garage said they had a problem actually getting the diagnostic plug to connect up (No idea why, never heard this happening), so he bought a cheap reader now, which I'm certain won't give all the codes out (if it even worked), although I've not tried it.

Does anyone on here know anything about these cars, if they are turbo charged? Also what might be causing engine light on and glow plug lights to flash, it's seems to start ok from cold. I'm thinking engine might be in limp home given the erratic performance. That and/or a problem with turbo perhaps, if it is turbo charged.

Thanks

G

Yes, given the age I expect its wired carplay and not wireless.

I hope you didn't think it's from 2008? That's the model.

As an overview, Apple carplay requires an approved interface chip and sign off by Apple in order to support the functionality, however Apple then screw up the interface at every update  >:(      I would always advise avoiding Crapple updates for the first 4-6 weeks.....

As for the cables, the dealer is actually correct, the data loading Carplay (and Android Auto, Bidu etc) put on the system means you need a decent cable and not just the cheap tat which people only use for charging, long cables can also create issues.

Unfortunately the system in the Pugs is running on the edge and the software gets chopped and 'optimised' just to get it working so can be a bit flaky (hence why you might see a fresh 'oh shit' release shortly after you get an update)......it doesn't help that they don't have Software Over The Air (SOTA) working either.

We see loads of customer complaints following Phone updates..........the car has not changed, the phone has yet its the cars fault (happens on Android to but, much less often and not on Android Auto, not seen an issue for over 12 months and that was only on our older systems as they moved to a new Bluetooth stack and 'forgot' to enable backward compatibility).

I should add, it does sound like there is a more fundamental issue given the audio distortion, pretty much every system these days has a DSP audio processing stage to support cabin audio tuning, echo cancellation (voice calls) etc, it sounds like this is not loading correctly......as for the system crashing, this also points to a software install issue. The trouble is the dealer wont actually be able to do a full fresh software install so would be a head unit swap out (If it was me I would be looking to re-load the audio config files......but the dealers might not have this ability)

The Kia Dealer next to them is having a similar issue and they have said it's a common issue with updates, it's still doing the issue even now. I find that odd that you have to go to a site, download the update to a pen drive and install it by plugging that in to the car, that seems mad, especially as it's done sweet FA to fix the operations of the unit. As you said over the air updates, I would have thought that should be easy enough, especially these days.

Leaves you high and dry with a brand new car, which effectively doesn't work and can't be fixed!

Apparently they've said there must have been another update since the last one, barely 2 weeks ago, and this has fixed the issue.....sounds like they never updated it the first time round, as they had convinced themselves it was our fault for using non-Apple cables!

General Car Chat / Peugeot 2008 carplay rebooting and no key detected
« on: 08 December 2020, 09:32:04 »
My partner usually buys a new pug every 3 years, and just got a new 2008 in August.

Just recently the carplay navigation/infotainment system has been rebooting itself and the garage checked/updated to the most recent software, they also said to use genuine apple cables, however with either the phone connected via apple or 3rd party cable, or disconnected, it will turn itself off then when turning back on it makes this horrible sound through the speakers, what I can only describe as sounding like a snowball hitting the windscreen, like a dull thud sound. Another thing we are now seeing since the update is sometimes the key not detected message, even though the key is right next to us.

Back in to stealership today and they've reported "no fault codes found". How could it be the phone when it does this when the phone isn't even connected?

Any thoughts? It sounds like a hardware intermittent fault, and what is that strange noise when carplay is restarting.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Re: Door Check Strap Bush
« on: 09 November 2020, 23:42:22 »
Hi everyone,

I saw a part number on this site ages ago for the strap bush for the front doors, however, whenever I try to look through Vauxhall's spares sites they don't come up.  Have they been superceded or do they just not make them any more?  My car might be old and tatty, but the cracking door is annoying, and I'm worried it might put wear on something more drastic.

Thank you,

John.

Managed to source a pack of 3 from a dealer in Ireland, solved the cracking door.  Don't think they had anymore left though.

General Car Chat / Re: New Headlight.....£1700
« on: 29 October 2020, 23:16:55 »
You do all know that anyone who actually buys a '£1700'  headlight won't be paying anything like that amount? They will be a trade buyer, probably a bodyshop and will have negotiated a significant discount for their account.

Aye the bodyshops like insurance jobs! Used to work in the trade, seen the small dink in a bumper turn into a whole rear end replacement!

Had to do a doubletake at this one, guy in work recently had damage to headlight in his 18 plate Audi, can't mind exact model, more up the range one, but it was 1700 just for the light? Is that not insanity squared? That's more than 2 of my cars worth lol!
