It's strange, but with  all this talk of scottish independence I find myself becoming attracted to Nicola Sturgeon. :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

General Car Chat / Omega braking performance.

Sixty to zero in 44.79 metres and 3.36 seconds. Dry road ....driver only.

Best to check your mirrors first before trying this..... ::) ::) ::) ;)

A modern car will stop from 70 MPH in about the same distance.

General Car Chat / Misty/cloudy MV6 headlights.
« on: 10 April 2014, 10:42:17 »
Does anyone have an inexpensive tip for bringing the headlights of my MV6 back to their former glory?

The MOT is due in June and the lights have taken on a dull opaque appearance of late. :-\

We all know what the manufacturer claims for this delightful old 'dowager'. Let's explore the reality.

LOCATION.........Perfectly flat 'private facility'. Santa Pod.

CONDITIONS......Virtually windless.  Fourteen stone driver  and half a tank of fuel.

TEST EQUIPMENT....Racelogic Performance box.........accurate to within 0.1 MPH (SPEED)
                                                                                                 0.1 SEC  (TIME)
4 CM over 400 metres (DISTANCE)

So..............10 MPH.....0.71 sec........1.88 metres

                 20 MPH.....1.77 sec..........9.13 metres

                 30 MPH.....3.12 sec.........24.27 metres

                 40 MPH.....4.52 sec.........46.17 metres

                 50 MPH.....6.36 sec..........83.36 metres

                 60 MPH ....8.53 sec..........136.90 metres

                 70 MPH.....11.00 sec.........208.94 metres

                 80 MPH......14.42 sec.........323.86 metres

                 90 MPH......18.38 sec.........474.62 metres

                100 MPH......23.23 sec.........680.99 metres

Standing quarter mile 16.54 sec at 85.54 MPH.

All of these figures are very similar to a 2.8 injection Capri from the 1980's. :y

General Car Chat / My MV6 is back on active duty.
« on: 07 April 2014, 17:45:17 »
So far today I've changed the insurance from the CLS 500 to the Omega. A welcome refund of £41.29 is winging it's way to me as I type this. :y :y

I have also pumped up the tyres (flat) and taxed the beast £285. :-\ Thanks to TB's help the CD player is now coded, and loaded with Diana Krall, Nora Jones, Santana and The Stranglers.  :y

She feels as good as ever to drive, but after the Merc she seems soooooo achingly slooowwww. Did 178BHP really feel this anaemic before? ;D ;D

The acceleration feels almost glacial. :-\  I'll run some acceleration tests with my Racelogic Performance box to see if she performs as she should. :y :y

Wecome back, old girl. :-* :-* :-*

General Car Chat / MV6 coolant change
« on: 06 April 2014, 18:43:43 »
I last changed the red (5year) coolant on my MV6 shortly after Mark DTM replaced my oil cooler. This was  2011.

However, I now can't quite remember how I did it in any detail.

I know that I require 4.5 litres of the red stuff for a 50/50 concentration, but I'm also sure that the radiator doesn't hold more than about 3 litres.

My question is this. What else do I need to remove (yank off) in order to be able to fill the system with 4.5 litres of GM red?

General Car Chat / M500 JFC has gone to a new home.
« on: 05 April 2014, 12:33:20 »
A very nice couple have just left for Loughborough and seem extremely pleased with their new purchase. :y

For my part, I'm £6350 the richer :y :y.......except, I'm not actually, the f**king taxman is....sob....sob :'( :'(

Of course, I've had to make it up with my wonderful  MV6  :-* :-* :-*......she quite rightly feels wounded, abandoned, and generally unloved.  :'(

I've assured her that I shall never again be seduced by the 'creamy torque filled thighs' of the big-titted german fraulein. ::) ::) ;D

General Car Chat / Taxing a SORN Omega.
« on: 01 April 2014, 20:10:11 »
What do I need?

The car currently has no insurance. Is there a special road tax form from the Post Office that I need to fill in?

General Car Chat / Why does every turbo diesel car..........

My theory is that their owners are trying to replicate the manufacturers fuel consumption figures. ::) ::) ::)

They are doomed to fail. ;D

General Car Chat / Private number plate prices.
« on: 14 March 2014, 18:52:09 »
Taken from the classified advertisements in this week's Autocar magazine.

P5 STU............This apparently reads as 'Stuart's Porsche' and costs £10,000. Total insanity. :(

V800 MUD........ This is apparently Ideal for the Off-Road enthusiast. Cost £5,000. :(

M3 WLL...........William's M3........For £3,000 they must surely be taking the piss. :(

The links on some of these plates is tenuous to say the least. ;D ;D

Any ideas, chaps?

lovingly fondled a black seven incher?

My first time was way be 1976, when as an impressionable 16 year old, I bought Golden Years by David Bowie.......soon followed by Wild west hero from ELO. :)
