The CLS has passed it's MOT with just an advisory for low front brake pads...so I'm off to get her. :y

Please don't spoil my day by saying 'that German crap will cost you an arm and  a leg if/when it goes wrong, Mr Opti'.. ;D ;D ;D ;D

.......because I already know. :y

General Car Chat / Oh dear......What have I done?
« on: 10 January 2014, 10:45:36 »
After a call from the owner  we've agreed on £6750 for the CLS 500. :y

It will come with a fresh MOT that will be done on either Monday or Tuesday.

I've even paid him a small deposit to show good faith.  ::) :-\

Why oh why couldn't I have been sensible for once and bought a cheap to run Daewoo like that STMO chappie?.

I don't think I'll ever learn. ::) ::) :)

First thing I'll do is bin those almost new Michelin Alpin winter tyres. Yuk.

General Car Chat / Winter tyres insanity.
« on: 09 January 2014, 14:52:03 »
I'm at a loss to understand where this 'winter tyres' craze has sprung from.

I mean, for decades the British motorist has driven all year round, and in all weathers, on the same tyres. We managed...We survived. We didn't need 'nanny tyres' when a few flakes of snow fell from the heavens.

Now we are being told to use 'winter tyres' from October through April and then, at great expense, change back to 'summer tyres'

Why? ???

General Car Chat / Possible Omega replacement
« on: 06 January 2014, 18:31:45 »
If I empty the piggy bank I can just about run to this. It's located about 10 miles from us.

However, only 3 months MOT scares the crap out of me. I really don't want to be looking at a huge bill come April.

CLS Merc.......any good?........or big trouble?

Droop snoot Firenza recently?

I always lusted after one of these jobbies back in the seventies.

Would £1500 buy a reasonable example.........provided you can source one?

I've just received another phone call from Jaguar customer service.

"We can only apologise Mr Opti, but we are finding it extremely difficult to source an XFR for a 24 hour test drive. However, we do have an XF 2.2 diesel that you can try out. :-[ ???

Shhheessshh........ I may as well test drive an Omega diesel. :( :( :(

He did offer me a test drive in an untaxed 09 XFR with trade plates, but only for an hour or so....and it's not quite the same as having the car all to yourself for 24 hours. :-\

Santa is dead. :'(

Yesterday evening I filled in an online form for a 24 hour test drive in a Jaguar of my choice.

This morning a gentleman from Jaguar phoned to ask if I was still interested in a test drive.

"Yes please" I replied

"Any particular preference, Sir"

"Well, I was thinking of an XFR"

"Shouldn't be a problem Sir, just give me a few days to source the latest model.

Santa Claus is real and if I'm not on his naughty list perhaps he will let me keep the car until next Christmas. ;D ;D ;D :y

Apparently there are five more  psychopaths in banking than in any other profession.

I really shouldn't be surprised at this, as many psychopaths are selfish......manipulative.....and exhibit a total lack  of kindness or empathy for any other human beings.

Worth watching if you have the time. :)

.......Lincolnshire to Powys, the trip computer on my MV6 invariably reads between 30.5 and 32.5 MPG. :y :y

Well, I replaced the air filter before I went this time, because it hadn't been changed for yonks, and was as black as Obama's arse.

Result.......28.8 MPG. :'( :'( :'(

I'm aware that Mr Guffer has invested in a Nissan Leaf, which is currently one of the best 'leccy' cars available.

Has anyone any experience of the BMW i3?........It looks promising but quite costly, I think. :y

......... just about managed a leg-over without falling asleep ;D ;D ;D. ;)

Just kidding chaps, because instead of yielding to the pleasures of the flesh I donated an armful (470 ml) of my proletariat blood instead.

I used  to donate three times a year but recently my ferritin levels (stored iron) have been too low to donate. :-\ :-\

It's amazing the things that some people will do for a cup of tea and a wagon wheel. ;D ;D ;D

Seriously though, having given blood only 13 times I'm a mere novice compared to some here at OOF......Andy B.eanz along with Jimbob and Alfie and many others have donated more than fifty times to my knowledge :y :y :y :y .

So, If you don't suffer with a needle phobia, and you're not worried about fainting in front of a crowd  ;D ;D ;D ;D...then I suggest you give it a go. :y :y
