General Car Chat / Black Circles 😡😡😡
« on: 01 March 2019, 19:01:49 »
Emailed these guys to confirm if I order their tyres will they be new as opposed to ones made a while ago. Chap said yes, they’re usually same year (that we are in) if not newer.

So my four “new” tyres arrived this morning. 42nd week of 2016.

Yeah they’re an odd size (225/55/16) but surely when you purchase new tyres that is what you should get. Or should I fit them and shut up ?

General Car Chat / I think my life’s just got busier...
« on: 20 February 2019, 20:30:17 »
So kids.

A friend of mine was helping a friend of his to pull an engine/gearbox out of something or other. The friend of my friend had a barn full of old dogs.

One of the dogs........ was an automatic K reg. Senator with the 3.0L.

My initial reaction was “I love it but wifey won’t let me”. To my utter surprise she simply said “why not do it up on our drive” 😧😧😧😧😧😧😧😧😧😧😧😧

I don’t think I can pass this up. So currently texting the guy. Only photos show the Bonnet has some bad lacquer peeling and I’m told it doesn’t run and it needs a fuel pump. Easy to do?

Any info before I devote myself to this? 😂😂😂

Omega General Help / Strange front track rod / toe angle goings on
« on: 11 February 2019, 15:56:45 »
Fitted two front track rods from ATP (both inner and outer ‘ends’). Tracked it up the same time I adjusted the camber. Took it out. Lovely.

Week later I noticed it was wandering/slightly unstable at 60-ish. Checked tracking. Front camber still bang on with 1’ 10 exactly on NSF 😎 and 1’ 15 on OSF. But front toe was out again.

Adjusted again to 0’ 05 front toe. Again drove it on the dually and all good. Another week (maybe two actually) go by and I notice same slight instability. Pull it in yet again. Once again camber exactly as it was before, rear tracking bang on as I left it. But front toe out again 😧😧😧

These are, to TBs displeasure, ATP parts as mentioned above. I haven’t hit any pot holes and I e done hardly any miles. Wtf is going on? I’m tempted to just get some genuine ones but I’m struggling to see how they keep coming out of alignment. Any ideas?

General Car Chat / Omega camber....
« on: 04 January 2019, 20:14:45 »
Evening guys. Hope you’re all well.

When folk post up alignment figures pre-WIM I notice they’re always excessively negative camber. Which makes sense...as older suspension sags it’s not going to go more positive is it!

So. Hypothetically speaking. What is the harm in putting it positive? Curious bear 🐻

General Car Chat / Omega wheel balancing vol II
« on: 16 December 2018, 21:10:57 »
Taking my wheels to a local precision welding place. Good rates for making my wheels round again. However something occurred to me.

Somebody said spin the wheels up with no tyre which is a great idea. After the repair I’m presuming a zero zero balance would be perfect but what realistically will I see after the repair? 10g without a tyre?

As said just curious 😄

General Car Chat / Autodata....
« on: 13 December 2018, 22:07:56 »
...are a company that’s run by comedians.

Quoted a woman on a starter motor today for a 2012 Nissan Note. Autodata said 0.7hrs. When you see a time like that you know your luck is in........

Or is it 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

Fcking thing. Expansion tank out. Plastic inlet tube out. Coolant hose, 2000 wiring harnesses right over two upper bolts. Took me ages and a bit of blood to get one of them out. Down below you’ve got about 4 inches of room to get it out. Oil filter housing off. Oil level sensor out. Unbelievable 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡 my hand and arm is torn to shreds 🤕🤕🤕🤕🤕🤕

Anyway rant over. On the upside my Moog rear track rods arrived. And I already had front ones so I’ll fit Saturday. Excited 😄😄😄😄

General Car Chat / ATF change
« on: 10 December 2018, 19:14:21 »
Evening kids. Hope you’re all well. 😄

I’ve changed my atf on my ar25 a few times now. I have never dropped the two pans; I simply suck the fluid out and refill. I’ve been happy doing this much to TBs annoyance 😂

However it appears I have developed leaks from both gaskets. Sigh.

On the upside I will get to clean the magnets and change the filter.

I’ve looked for part numbers but the ones in the guides don’t match when I called Vauxhall. The chap who wrote the guide mentioned there is a kit for sale. Anybody got any links to a filter and gasket kit?

Also when I remove the filter (3 bolts I believe) is there a sealing o ring that I need to replace? I’ve done a couple of mercs and they didn’t even have securing bolts.... they had a tube off the filter with one o ring and it just kinda sat there 🤭🤭🤭

Anyway this won’t be done until next month as my track rods arrive tomorrow and I have no money til then 😂😂😂

General Car Chat / Rear track rods help
« on: 29 November 2018, 18:14:49 »
Hi guys

Just gone to purchase some new rear track rods for the omega. Carparts4less were selling them at £60 each in Lemforder. However they’re out of stock.

I’ve tried heat on mine and the adjustment rod still won’t budge. Anyone got two (that actually move lol) that they’d like to sell me?

General Car Chat / Midrange Omega tyres
« on: 29 October 2018, 19:40:43 »
Ok boys following on from my previous thread regarding stability in my Omega I have some great news for me...I’ve spun up the wheels without the tyres and they’re not warped or buckled so I save some dollar yay 😁 this week I’m also going to get the camber bang on. And as if that wasn’t enough I’ve got some new rear track rods on order to replace my seized ones. So a full geo will be done this week. I’m actually really excited to see an improvement. However....

That means that I’m going to have to get some new tyres to replace my stone-like BCTs.

I totally totally get that putting Michelin’s or Dunlop’s as suggested is awesome. I simply don’t have 350 - 450 to spend on a set of amazing tyres. All I want is stability in the wet.

I really love the idea of Rainsport 3’s however there are loads of comments about premature wear due to being a very soft compound. Is there anything else?

Kumhos that tunnie mentions have pretty good reviews.

No experience apparently of Toyos on here?

Anyone had Avons or Coopers?

I know this is an age old subject but any extra info or help would be great

General Car Chat / How stable is your Omega in the rain
« on: 18 October 2018, 12:52:47 »
Hi guys.

I went on a boys trip paint balling and I drove the passion wagon (the omega). Other than the wheel balancing on the front (😤) the omega is stable in the dry at speed. However in the rain it felt really unstable. I am a bit of a fanny in those conditions i will concede but I dropped down to 50-55 in the slow lane and it was ok. Then there were Audi’s and BMWs bombing past at warp speed.

What’s your experience of this in the omega? Can u bomb it when it’s pouring down?

Omega General Help / Why are Omega wheels so hard to balance?
« on: 18 October 2018, 12:39:52 »
Omega is coming in to the garage for a bit of work. Exhaust replacement, alignment and some service bits.

Anyway while it’s off the road for a week or so I aim to get the front wheels balancing sorted.

Now I will preface this by saying our balancing machine is erm, old, and I have previously questioned its performance but I’ve had them balanced next door too and though it gets better it’s still never perfect. So anyway I’m going to take the tyres off and drop the wheels to precision welding for them to get true and then hopefully they’ll balance up and job done.

However I’ve heard others mention the difficulty so what is it about them?

Ps mine are CD wheels
