I never owned one, but I always quite fancied a Carlton. Nice car !

Thanks Rog.  :y

amazing work done there :o :o :o

I bet when they were freshly cooked from the factory they dont shine like this.. :y :y :y

worth your efforts :y

Thanks cem  :y It's a constant battle keeping this black car looking shiny and dust-free  :-\

Looks very nice Mark and after doing the same with a Manta i know what you went through, at one point i shut the workshop for two months and walked away from it just to stay saine.

Now all you need to do is keep it clean and the underside is the worst, found a spot of rust on an antroll bar bracket the other week so it all came off to be re-painted.

But while you can sit back and enjoy the car i've got another three Mantas, '68 Opel GT, Senator S1, Monza S1 and maybe a full bare shell build on an Omega.

Enjoy the car

Andy

Thanks Andy, (this isn't Andy Clears is it?) You've certainly got your work cut out with that lot!!!

Awesome car. :y

Very nice indeed. :y

beautiful :y

Thanks guys, appreciated   :y :y :y

Bloody Carlton's I hate em. I'd never spend the last two years putting one together. Or having at least one Carlton in the garage for the last 20 years  ::) ::) ::)

Thought so, I spoke to you last year regarding flywheel bolts for this very car, they're like rocking horse manure to get hold of, my last hope was Opel Germany.....but got them from a small bolt company down in the West Mids in the end, high tensile, correct thread pitch/diameter. Just had to get the heads shaved on a lathe as they were a little high, apart from that perfect all for about £10 for 6. Flywheel still on the car so all's good  :y

Thanks gstylebaby. Didn't rebuild the diff as (although it was caked in oil) it ran fine with no clunking or whining. I did change the propshaft and halfshaft seals though and put in new oil and additive. Apart from that just cleaned the casing with paraffin and thinners, wire brushed the surface and gave it a coat of silver Hammerite  :y

Haha, Would love to teach you mate, but to be honest I've probably forgotten how to weld myself. When I started this project I'd never even touched a welder, my Bro-in-law taught me the basics of mig welding and I went from there. I had more fun grinding the welds smooth (which hid my 'reasonable' efforts). Have a go yourself, it's fun once you get the hang of it.....watch out for those sparks when they go up your sleeve....or down your ear *sizzle*  ;)
