Intermittent intermittent wipers.
« on: 29 September 2013, 22:41:13 »

Wipers don't always work on intermittent. Work fine on constant and fast, but intermittent is, well, intermittent  :-\

When it's not working, the wipers don't self park either...

Switch, motor or relay any guesses :-\

If motor reliably self parks when the switch is moved to 'off' that implies that the contacts in the motor are still good.

I am not sure which is then the prime suspect: relay or switch. They have to work together so either could be at fault.

If someone is breaking a car and happy to sell you both then I would get both.

If you are going to buy new then I would have the relay apart to check the state of the relay inside it and I would have the switch out of the car to inspect it for signs of burning or loose contacts.

Correct. :y

In my case it was the contacts in the motor (not surprised they failed when I looked at them). The relay and switch are also involved in all self-parking whether it's during intermittent wipe or not, so not easy to diagnose. Swap the relay with someone and see if that helps might be a first step?

Sounds like a plan :y don't really want to faff around with the motor if I don't need to ::)

Front are on a separate relay to the rear iirc :-\

When looking under the bonnet is the bottom of the wiper mechanism on the drivers side rusty, mine was rusty and finally seized, fitted a replacement from Albs and works great now
