Is the re-build due to a prang, rust or something more adventurous ?

a bit of all of them mate. got the car and previous owner bypassed expansion tank sensor. I went down motorway bit faster than 70, went bang, seized and burned the bearings out after it got a little warm. so decided to rebuild engine

engine out I noticed chassis leg was holed all round so binned shell. got another with less rust. or so I thought. so after rebuilding engine and chopping all rust out im finally painting it. once complete it will almost be a new car. hopefully

Couldn't find a set of tinted rear lights so tinted them myself, that was my 3rd attempt, kept putting on too much too quick and ran everywhere :-[

Great job on the engine bay. It looks like a text-book restoration job.
New brake lines are a nice touch, too.

I see that you have chrome-plated varios parts (camshaft-pulleys, SAI components, coolant pipe) and it looks great - what procedure was used to do this. Just one detail - the ending of the coolant pipe, where the coolant rubber hose is attached on -> it would be better if it was protected from chroming, as this surely has a lower friciton than original finishing, resulting in a higher risk of slipping a hose from it.

Also, I see that you used chromed pipes for wiring 'casings' -> did you reroute the driver side engine loom (starter, multiram, EGR)? As it originally goes at the front of the engine (just below pulleys) to the fuse/relay/ECU box.               EDIT: I see now, the ECU box is moved below the windshield.

The cam sprockets and coolant pipes are just polished. So it wouldn't increase tolerances on sprockets and coolant pipe is stainless steel so shines up lovely.

Yea that is another stainless steel pipe that runs around engine. Loom is already in there.

Thought the fuse box would leave engine bay a lot neater if it was outta there. Battery also in the boot

It's nice to see how the engine bay is not very complicated any more, when stripped of all the unnecesary stuff.
It kind of looks like 70s muscle cars.

Bleedin ell! That looks fabulous, nice to see everything so clean, and things that can be polished, polished, things that can be repainted, repainted.

How I'd love to be able to do that level of resto to my old girl..

Keep it up  :)
