Replacement remote locking key fob case needed
« on: 20 June 2016, 19:48:09 »

My remote locking / alarm key fob case has seen better days and both of the rubber button covers have perished and disappeared. Is it possible to replace just the button covers or is a replacement case needed?  Is it possible to get either of the above, and if so, where?

2 or 3 button?

aftermarket 3 button ones are always rock hard, so I always buy a new fob instead. About £3 from egay.

Incidentally, its a sign the switches are starting to fail, so you may be wise to replace them as well.

It's a 2 button unit. I don't suppose you'd have a link for a suitable replacement unit would you please?

Surprised you've knacked the casing, do you have a pic?

It's not the plastic part of the case, it's the rubber button covers which have totally perished and vanished over the course of time.....

It still works like this, but I really ought to get something sorted so I'm not in danger of damaging or losing the switches.

Yes it's a 97 on a P-plate. Is that bad? Lol! I'm guessing that for whatever reason, the fobs were different??!!

That would be much appreciated!

I think I answered this on another thread yesterday, but there's several types of fob

Separate Fob 1 earliest (which worked on an Infrared system, accompanied by a black ball next tot he electric window switch)
Sepearate Fob 2 yours (and mine) the 'middle one' 96-ish
All-in One Key 1 MFL type (sortof) 'interchangeable' with FL (same basic shape)
All-in One Key 2 FL type rubberised, by far the most common now. Come in 2 and 3-button flavours for Saloon or Estate.

All systems can be swapped over and installed in other cars with some reasonably simple fettling, or bodged to work in 10 seconds flat and some sellotape.

Alternatively the excellent reprogramming facilities offers by such as The Boy  can make anything work, with their magical computermabob machines  :)

Just like to say thanks to tigers_gonads for his help, I now have a much better key fob than I had before, it even still has the little symbols on the rubber buttons!

So now I have a fully working fob.  I've even discovered how to close the windows and sunroof from the fob too (press and hold the close button), and how to deadlock the doors (press close button once to lock doors, and again to deadlock).

Happy days!  ;D
