reconditioned alternator, battery light glow.
« on: 19 August 2017, 11:52:59 »

Hi all need a bit of info, Just put a reconditioned alternator on and it works great 14.4 volts rev up etc stays the same voltage , Old one was fluctuating all the time. and battery light coming on, Now when I put the lights on its fine add the heater on full the light glows dim. But the voltage is 13.68 volts going into the battery. Ive had to change the battery as it was faulty and think it buggered up the alternator ( had it on charge for 2 days and never got to fully charged Lion battery) new battery is holding 12,6-7 volts just sat on ignition off,  Lion was 11.08 volts so no good, So anyway replaced them both. Now is the battery light controlled by the dash  or the regulator ? as think it says that the light would come on full at anything lower than 12 volts and its not doing that. asked at the garage to test its working fine and said there is a 1.5 volt drop but that's normal. anything over 2 volts would mean there's a problem, so was thinking could it be the connection to the dash that's the problem ? any thoughts on this ? thanks

:y found it. According to the into it could be a connection problem. But the connection at altinator is fine. And charging right. Put lights on high beam fan on full fog and spots on and heated seats and voltage drops to 13.06 indicators bit harder to see with all this on but goes from 12.92 to 13.06 and at 13.06 battery light is dim just glowing with indecators its flashing a bit brighter. But do think it's the dash connection as stops if I push on dash a bit. But nothing else is affected ?

Has the car had a good run since the reconditioned alternator was fitted?

I have found that batteries that have been down on charge for a while can take several hours of driving (or hundreds of miles) to bring the battery back up to fully charged.

On mine, it was the crimped connector on the red positive cable to the battery. I borrowed large crimp pliers from work, though it didn't seem to do much, it had the desired effect on the charging light.
