Problem is no jobs in mobile development, not exactly many jobs in Wales for someone who manages Apple (iOS), Android and Chromecast development.  :(

Fixed that for you ;). I know what you mean though, I feel pretty lucky to be able to ply my trade in pretty much any large town or city. I worked in London for 18 months and would never choose to do so again!

 ;D ;D ;D ;D

Must be a "darn sarf" thing but last month I paid Peoples Choice 196 quid cash for my omega.
That's full comp / protected NCB and business use  :y

The Omega has commuting into London on it as well, so that will wack them up  :)

Fair comment

Best you get yourself a job up north then  ;D

Wish I could, genuinely, I'd love to live out in the countryside, like Wales. I look at what my neighbours house is on the market for as a rough idea of value, put that price in Wales or up 'Norf and I can buy a huge house, massive garden needing a ride-on mower  8)

Do you REALLY need to travel into London everyday for your job ?
How long does it take you to get into work at the moment ?

Apologies for the thread drift  :)

I drive and it currently takes 40 mins, thanks to school holidays. Normally it's around 55 mins. Soon should be car sharing again, as my car share buddy is coming back to Sky. So once he is back I will use just 1 tank of VW juice a month. So £60 a month to get to work, nice and cheap!

You put my job title into London area, page after page of job results. Same thing outside London, or 25 mile radius of where I live, only a handful out there. Probably other software jobs out there, but I really do enjoy mobile development and the fast past of change. - Also great to be involved in video streaming, quite specialised, I enjoy the complex elements.

Also what makes it hard is Sky is a great company to work for, I'm working from home 1 day a week at the moment for a couple of reasons and my boss just allows this. Generally get lot of flexibility with hours, been here 8 years now so have some good perks as well. 30 days holiday, good pension contributions from Sky, my career has progressed well have 6 people reporting into me now, aiming to run a department as my next step, so have no intention to leave. Perhaps it might be different if I did not like my job.

I've never had to specify where I commute to. And my business use takes me into Londonium far more often than I want to go.

One the MV6, said insurance (same as Jag, but with £3k value) was £170. TBE is something like £230 with same, only she is down as primary driver on that car.

Shame that Tunnie but understand where your coming from  :)
We could have even taught you and your young family to speak proper  :D :D

Ref Jimmy, I left my old job because the bastids kept sending me to jobs in London ( 11 hour shifts) then putting me up in hotels 50 miles away outside the M25  >:( >:(

I now do Mondays to Thursdays, sleep in my own bed, have a 3 day weekend and never work bank holidays  :D
Okay, i've lost a 3rd of my money but do I care ?
DO I FOOK  ;D ;D ;D

I really must make an effort to go into my office.  I've been in twice since June  :-[

30 days holiday
Hmmm, I don't think a career at Sky is for me then ;D

Just renewed with Hastings, £202. Fully comp, for the estate. Only £5 up from last year, so didn't bother the meerkats.

Lad in my team (ok he's 5yrs older than me, but they're all lads or lasses) came from BT and apparently the culture, at least in finance/head office is totally poisonous, they're haemorrhaging people and since they're paying half of Wayne Rooney's wages (with your lot paying the other half :P) they're seriously cutting back on bonuses and packages for new starters.

I would urge anyone thinking of that move to do their due diligence most carefully!

Including those wilderness 10 years I was in HP (which still counts, due to TUPE regulations), it'll be 30yrs next year :o

When I started, it was something like 20 days, which slowly crept up with additional days added every 5 years, or something like that.  I think now, you start at 25 days, and go up to 32.5 after five years, and that's it.

That would mean moving to the country, as I believe the TV app development is mostly done in research and dev campus out in Lazydocker country.

They were offering central Londinium  :-\

RE Holidays, similar for Sky. Start on 25 days, 1 day extra per year of service, but sadly they cap it at 30 days.

That'd be what was once the Postoffice Tower then, as that's where the TV department are based.

Yup, I know someone who worked for BT and would echo that sentiment - it's not a place I'd look to go and work, now, in my line of work.

He now works for Ciena and I think the only thing he misses is having 300 days of holiday a year ;D

Probably huge differences per team, I think some teams in Sky you could hear that and some others that it's brilliant to work for. Large variation in big corps I think.

I would not be changing though, I'd have to go into central, that would cost me about £5k more just to get to work and eat.
