The only bulb failure warning is for the brake lights.

The parking light isn't a xenon bulb

Don't think that's right.

For my old 2.2, the MID checked head/tail lights as well. It would tell you if a rear light was out also front dipped beam.

But yes parking light is not xenon, unless it's been chav'd up

What DG says.

Plus HIDs are not on check control either, on HID equipped cars.

wrote that wrong I meant to say headlights  are xenons , but I knew parking bulb is a normal bulb. though I thought anything to do with a light out would appear as a warning on the mid.

The Ballasts are (i.e., leave on unplugged), but bulb isn't.  Certainly on PFL, not experimented on FL

My facelift MV6 flagged up a HID bulb that wasn`t sparking properly too, the warning went out as soon as the bulb was lit.

yep sometimes with streetlights it's the only way i know a hid bulb hasn't lit short of driving right up to the car in front.  switching the lights off and on usually cures it.
