Screen wont turn off and problem with temperature display
« on: 09 October 2017, 14:50:34 »

Hello!
I have this problem, that when I remove the key from the ignition, then a few seconds after the screen (CID) turns off, it will turn on again. It just shows the logo and clock (as when the radio is turned off). This also happens when I just turn off the radio (without key in the ignition), just turns the screen on again.
Can this be a problem with the ignition switch?
Another question related to the screen - the outside temp is about 5...8 degrees off, shows colder than it is. Does the screen take its temp reading from the sensor under the bumper?

Hello!
No telematics, just normal 2013.
Would this be the right temp sensor?

Get a meter on the W contact (just as the switched live going to radio), but I would look towards ignition initially.

I've seen the telematics bring the radio back on every minute or so, but that was a faulty telematics.

Had the same problem in my 95 estate. In my case it was the signal wire from the radio that caused it. But the radio itself was innocent. Turned out the feed from the radio that turns on the display also turns on the antenna amplifier in the tailgate. The feed to the tailgate is running across the floor under the carpet in the front. Together with lots of other wires. Due to rustholes in the floor everything was wet, the wires had spilt open and corroded so the radio/display/antenna amp feed picked up power from the constant power to the central locking system. Fixed the wires, dried and welded the floor and problem went away. Probably something else in your case, but if the carpets are wet checking the wiring under there makes sence.

I had a CID that did that (this one did have Telematics), never did find out what was causing it, but pulling the HU out and disconnect for a few hours normally sorted it for 6+ months before commng back to haunt me again.

There is an audible click of some relay, and the screen turns on.
After switching the ignition on-off for some 10 times, the screen remained off. If it was a faulty ignition switch, then I would presume the screen would not switch off at all...

When you pull key out do you feel the barrel pop out a little bit?

Tried some things.
Without touching the ignition key - just tried switching the radio on-off. Sometimes the screen remained off, sometimes not.
Tried to remove the HU. Then the screen would not turn off at all.
(While doing that, I encountered a weird anomaly with the radio. The volume button and the steering wheel volume buttons turn the sound on and off, no change in volume. In one position the sound is muted, the second it is on. This condition went away when I tried switching sound sources)
Now the screen comes up pretty randomly, I leave the car with the screen off, come back hours later the screen is on again. Once witnessed the screen turning off when I just opened the door.

I am inclined to thinking that the changing of ignition switch will not remedy the matter. I will try to go for a longer drive and heat the cabin up to get all the moisture out.

I had the radio turn on when I plugged in one of those fault finding/clearing jobbies that sends the info to your phone?. probably not much use to you but I thought I would mention it anyway.

Update:
I did a warmup run last week to really dry out the cabin. The weather has also been quite dry recently and I have not seen the screen on again.

As a reply to the info about the OBD2 dongle, I have had that as well. When plugged in, the lights on the dongle never go out and it probably keeps some controller alive as well, draining the battery.
