Puddle Light - Door Switch?
« on: 19 October 2017, 20:52:32 »

Only noticed today, as it's getting dark. But the passenger door puddle light works fine when I open the drivers door, but open the passenger side and it no worky.

I know they get stuck some times, so manually activated it a number of times, no joy  :(

Faulty door switch?  :-\

If memory serves,  the switch actually "earths" the supply rather than providing power .. so if the "other" door opening provides the earth I would check the connection between switch and chassis on the passenger side ....

So kind-of fixed this, nipped out to the car earlier and took another look. Just gave the push switch a wiggle while in place, and it started working.

So clearly bit dirty/corroded under the rubber cover, so back home will whip this off and clean it.

Same switched used for other things, such as courtesy light and alarm, so surprised not noticed before.

You may well find that cleaning is only a short term solution, so might be worth having one on standby :)

Contemplating changing my standard Festoon puddle lights to LED / SMD ones  :-\
  • Anybody done it ?
  • Any preference to length of bulb ? (I get a few different answers the more I look !)
  • Any preference to sellers and suppliers ?
Thanks
Andy.
