Yup, I dislike the whole premise, and the fact it's an(other) imported American holiday we all have to suffer through for the good of the confectionery and plastic tat industry.

Normally I remedy this problem by being out on the night itself, but it seems any evening give or take about a week is fair game round here.  ::)

Yep, here we go again.

We teach our children not to accept sweets from strangers, but at Halloween they are allowed out en mass to do just that!  Crazy! ::)

Or rather we teach them it's ok to ask for things from strangers for free and then do something nasty to them if they don't comply.

Lovely.  ::)

As for trick or treaters, the little ones round here only come on the actual night. They make a real effort with their dressing up, must take them and their parents hours. They are also happy with a small bar of chocolate or the like, unlike some of the little bastards we’ve had at previous addresses who want money.
I’m quite looking forward to it.

The only slight satisfaction I get from the fireworks is that, every time I hear a large bang, I know that some braindead bastard is a pound or two worse off.

Hate fireworks with a vengeance, should only be used in displays by suitably qualified people & not on sale to the general public, as for Halloween load of shite.

Another excellent official annual Sandhurst Town Council firework display tonight, there must have been 5-10k watching. At about 9:30 walked down to local offie for 4 tins, where I had run out of beer. Coming the other way was a local pub crawl group of scantily dressed Halloween girls, said hello and had to turn around and make sure the scantily clad girls kept swinging their skimpy skirted hips and kept on walking, so I wouldn't suffer a zombie attack. Another tough job in life but somebody has to do them. :-X :-X :-X

Yes - my lot went to Sandhurst display en masse - I stayed home with daughter's dog who managed to squeeze herself into a tiny corner - not bad for a greyhound.

My daughter (staying with us whilst their extension finished plus dog and kids and husband) has gone to town on our house to try and entice the trick treaters down the drive to our front door - they love it. I will be out.

Well i have just got back from my first ever Halloween party at my nephews. Really really enjoyed it. Eight adults two children. We all got dressed up. They had gone to quite a bit of trouble. The doorbell went. Out with bowl of sweets .visiting kids were with parents .all had made an effort. No tricks all evening.we ran out of sweets andhad finished eating so went out to recoup some! Got to say everyone that was obviously participating ( house dressed, got pumpkin lanterns outside etc) were most welcoming.

Changed my view a lot.

We were out for most of the night, so I only had to answer the door to one lot.. one boy and two girls, late teens, dressed up, short skirts (the girls, not the lad). I didn't mind that too much ;D

Sadly had to give them chocolate from our stash as we hadn't bought anything ;D and I'm only allowed one treat sized bag of buttons a day now, so I kinda begrudge that! </grinch> (Still, I've lost nearly 6st since February, so I guess laying off the choccies is a good thing.. and the kebabs.. fish & chips.. anything cooked in oil.. fat.. you know, all the tasty stuff)

In all seriousness a grilled chicken kebab wouldn't be too bad - if it weren't for the garlic sauce, bread, the chips that sometimes slip in with it.. ;D

Had to go out last night to our eldests parents evening at his college to see 2 of his tutors, left a sign on the front (locked) gate to say we dont want trick or treat and it seemed they obeyed.... Might have been the fact they couldn't gain access to our front door and no lights on that might have stopped them too LOL

Halloween is getting bigger and bigger every year, as has been said, another imported tradition - we'll be celebrating 4th of July next...... my oppsing arse we will too.... even though a very large clothing chain tried a 4th July special offer a couple of years ago and got shot down very quickly when they got reminded what 4th July actually means to the Yanks...

There is a system in the village of Webs end, where if you have a pumpkin at the front of your house the trick or treaters will knock your door. If you don't, they wont.
Needless to say the Mig household doesn't display a pumpkin.  :)

Has worked for us over the years. When SWMBO was having her cancer treatment they left us alone. The last few years have been great fun. It,s the only time some of the neighbours speak. ;D
