Once again, the cost/blame has been passed on to the motorist..... 

The DPF is a filter in the exhaust to that is supposed to be cleaned by increasing the supply of the chemicals that caused the particulates in the first place. Now, does that sound like something that an engineer would insist upon, or the idea of a politician who has no practical understanding?

As there are virtually no plod on the road anymore they will find it very difficult to get a speed camera to do it

It is fit for purpose (as I can confirm having stuck 194k miles on one with no issues)

The issue is those who insist on having a modern diesel for plodding about in.....there not up to that and cant be used for that.

Until next year it could be tricky, other than the snide Mr Fuse points out. However it's not really much different to a knackered CAT in a petrol car. Wouldn't know about that until mr MOT man hands you a fail slip.

Potential recourse to the dealer I guess if purchased within 6months of the problem being identified.

I guess a visual inspection, see if the it's been buggered about with underneath. Can't exactly do that when viewing cars though!

That said with VAG you could do a plug in and insect the DPF's condition via software... as sure you can on others. But do need the specialist software to do it

So i guess the only other way to look would be soot around the tail pipe, as DPF functioning should mean a diesel has a very clean tail pipe.

Boot it hard and look in the rear view mirror.

Saturation is calculated from back pressure and its the saturation that triggers a regen

Now that my astra and I have become used to each other, the FC is showing around 45mpg. That’s not bad for poodling around town.

Over 50 on mine now since I serviced it, I suspect it may have had the wrong grade of oil in it previously. Can't think of what else it could be, wasn't that ganked up.

I set my self a challenge to see how high I could get the mpg, feathering the accelerator pedal to get it to change up at the earliest opportunity. Trouble is...I can’t stop doing it now. If I drive/accelerate normally, I still get 40+, but I’ve become a tree hugger

Its waste veg oil. This particular pizza restaurant changes it so regularily, its almost like new oil, so he wont give it away like most of them do.
I have a small local collection from a place which makes nothing but curry. The oil is bright orange and my cars exhaust smells like the extractor fan at the back of an Indian restaurant.

The regulations allow for up to 2500 litres per year of personal use before any duty is payable. A rolling 12 monthrecord of use needs to be kept for the unlikely event where someone asks to see it.
