quick question.do I need to remove oil cooler to replace cam cover gaskets on a v6?.many thanks in advance.

Yes, DBW or non DBW still same. Oil cooler is deep inside the V.

You'd need to take the injection manifold off to get to to the oil cooler, all that comes off for cam covers is the plenum

You need the injection section out to as well to do the cam covers (fuel pipes run across the top of the 1-3-5 bank and the top of the casting is quite a way over the cam covers):

Did mine a few months ago. I think my 3.2 is pretty much the same set up as yours. I had to take the injector rail off. It's an easy enough job. Look out for the little o-rings that sit inside the cam plastic covers where the bolts go through. When you lift the plastic cover off, turn it over to make sure you have them all. A few of mine dropped out and could have caused an engine problem had I not realised. For me getting the passenger side cam cover back on and seated properly was the hardest part; space is a bit tight and you don't want the new seal dropping out as you try to put the cover back in position. All the best. It's a very doable job with the help of the maintenance guide.

Forgot the injector rail needed to come off 

It comes off connected to the manifold... no need to undo the fuel lines if you don't want to either

What are peoples recent experiences of pattern vs genuine cam cover gaskets?

I have only ever fitted genuine. Most recent set was 100,000 miles ago and they still seem to be oil-tight (but I have kept the breathers clear)

Elring on mine for the last 4years. They were in the £12.50 head gasket set, so I had nothing to lose by using them. When I do my annual oil/plug change, there is a smear of oil in one of the plug holes. I wipe it clean and don't worry about it.
