Might be of interest
« on: 03 December 2017, 12:53:17 »

I first heard about this complex of tunnels under Portsdown Hill many years ago. Built during WW2  as an Under ground HQ., they were used by NATO during the cold war.
In Part one of the video, the film crew have gained acess from Emergency exit 1. These exit points are still visible on the hill below Fort Southwick.
Military Road ( the public road that runs along the top of the hill ) is marked on their tunnel guide (pause the video @2.35) & passes over corridors 60 to 64.

Very interesting! :y :y

There is also an extensive complex of tunnels, built originally for the Napoleonic Wars but used and extended during WWII, under Dover Castle and some of these can be seen by the public. In 1940 they were notably used for the command of Operation Dynamo (the evacuation of Allied troops from Dunkirk).

Then there's the ring of Napoleonic forts around the Medway towns; Fort Amherst is open to visitors

These guys produce a video every Friday usually of their exploits underground, I think he's based around Dover so a lot of his stuff is from around there and the south east. It's fascinating the amount of underground tunnels have been cut into the countyside for WW2 and the Cold War...

Gibraltar is littered with tunnels, a lot are used as server bases for the offshore gambling(bet363,Ladbrokes) and others, there is a large amount which are still sealed from ww2, and some which are Military use sssshhhh.

And to think the first ones were hand dug, and black powered, and the gun portals were purely accidental, when they knocked thro to allow the fumes from blasting to escape, and went "these would make good vantage points to mount cannons, and shot the spainiards"
