Fed up
« on: 03 December 2017, 18:08:44 »

To the back teeth.

I went back to work in March 2017. Back to traffic. I can’t go into detail but it was too soon and I’m now off again. Hoping to go back to office work as an initial reintroduction in January.

Plan is still a return to traffic but still face many obsticals.

I changed the discs and pads on my Mondeo recently. Didn’t really feel able but stubbbornness took over. I had to take the car off the road and do one corner per day. I then hurt for a week.

To cap it off, on the advice of a senior consultant, I’m now being investigated for a brain injury.

Since my crash I’ve had some forgetfulness, inability to concentrate, personality changes, headaches.  The suggestion is That whilst I don’t recall a head injury, my brain hit the inside of the skull In a head on with a closing speed of 130mph, and may have done damage.

I’m having to see loads of medical experts for legal purposes and I’m literally pig sick of it

I then feel guilty for feeling that way because at least I’m still mobile.

It’s a shit time and I could do with some motivation

James, no way should you feel guilty, it ain't your fault. As for motivation, well you are still alive and have made a remarkable recovery, even though not a complete one.
It could have been a LOT worse = we could have lost a great bloke.

You must have undergone massive decelerative forces,so the chances of your brain bouncing off the inside of your skull would be pretty high I'd have thought[footballers seem to be suffering similar due to heading the ball] You can view these "setbacks" as all doom and gloom or you can view them as a learning curve where your body is telling you you're not quite ready to go the next step and try not to force the pace of your recovery-and I'm sure you will recover although it may take a little longer than you'd like.Small steps are far better than long strides, try to relax and enjoy time with your family.Softly, softly catchee monkey. All the best :y :y

I’m assuming that these tests, consultations etc can be done in work time?
If so then take it one day at a time & get motivation from the small things in life - on a daily basis.
I was seriously ill a year ago, being admitted to hospital with a DVT and kidney failure following a business trip to the Far East. Spending almost a month in hospital over Christmas & new year was not much fun - despite the care I received being excellent. I was then off work at home until April.
I had an amicable separation from my employer in May and am now doing what pleases me until I retire in the next year or so. Ok, I’ve got a bit of contract work to keep the wolf from the door - but having a supportive spouse, friends and meaningful pastimes was/is essential. Obviously circumstances differ from person to person, if you are interested then I’ll tell you what kept me sane for 3 months.

All the best - Rob

I now feel guilty for grumbling about my painful hip.  :-[

It must be frustrating, but you're still here which from what I can make out is not short of a miracle!  :y

Recovery from serious illness or a major accident can often feel like one step forward, two steps back and can be frustrating as hell, but keep at it and you'll get there in the end.  :)

Having recently gone through a bit of a brain scare for the 2nd time I can only advise you to stay positive & go with whatever the medical specialists recommend , you have without doubt had a serious injury which will take time to heal 100 percent. If you have to have time off work my advice is to get out & about I walked my poor dog off his feet  but it was good for me , really hope you get through this worrying time.

Your health is the single most important thing. Stuff like car repairs - fun and rewarding that they are , ate really low priority.

Under no circumstances should you get sick of seeing specialists. If it helps think of it and getting your health back to a decent point as your job. Everything else is secondary. Cut corners now and you will perhaps feel good for a short time but you may pay the price later in life. There is your motivation      to negotiate endless consultations and treatment, advice, life style changes or whatever is tabled.

Can you access psychotherapy as part of your treatment?. It might help to talk through your issues with an expert.

Yes, that’ll be the thing I have to sit getting pissed off in gridlocked traffic in order to attend every Wednesday.....

As said elsewhere,  approach your recovery with a positive attitude and you'll recover positively.

This was never going to be a quick process, so sit back and try to enjoy it rather than endure it and you'll be back up and running alot sooner.

Having recently gone through a bit of a brain scare
After my last big accident, the MRI showed I had a brain. Which was a welcome relief.

Apologies for my dark humour ;D

I don’t mean to sound a bit harsh/unsympathetic/uncaring/mean* (*delete as appropriate) but you need to suck it up, buttercup!  ;)

You’re alive, far fitter and healthier that predicted and just need to be patient. You are likely to continue your recovery for several years - I say this because the recovery time for the surgery I had is 5 years(!) before they’ll decide if it was a success or not :o

The tests and numerous assessments are to ensure you get the best treatment and compensation due to you for your injury (not only at work but in a traffic incident).

I’m sure you’ll take my comments as they’re meant and not take offence.  :y

If I can do anything to help then let me know.

I really wish I had a life experience that was comparable,  which I could offer advice. Aside from bereavements, as I say, I have nothing, so really dont feel comfortable saying anything without it feeling trite or hypocritical.

Even saying "it'll get better" seems stupid (even though,  of course, it it true and one day this will be a chapter in your life which you actually find yourself forgetting about, from time to time)

All I can say is clearly 'heavy' work is pushing your body beyond its capability - for now - may I ask are there anything a little more 'indoors' you every used to enjoy doing, or even often thought youd always fancy taking up. airfix models, lead soldiers, painting, electrical engineering, even amateur robotics??

Sorry, as I regrettably dont know you well enough, you may be laughing your socks off at that list of things you hate or are self-confessed hopeless at, or maybe youre already a master at the lot and bought the t shirt. Basically my point is youre clearly a capable and handy bloke, who likes to keep busy, so anything that is keeping the hands and the grey matter busy, without overstressing your body must surely be a positive.

I'll pm you my address if you want to pop over and actually slap me in person for the riduculous attempt at help.  :)
