Ford Galaxy - cable window regulator
« on: 10 February 2018, 22:45:52 »

Poxy things. A while ago I fitted new cables and drive pulley to the mechanism in SWMBO's 2002 Ford Galaxy.

Yesterday it self-destructed again, leaving the drivers window fully open. I had to go out in the dark and pull the door card off so I could cut some pieces of wood to length to hold the glass up in the closed position.

Looking back through ebay correspondence it is almost 2 years to the day since I bought the last repair kit >:(

I was just about to book the thing in for an MOT but I have a nagging doubt that it might fail if the drivers window cannot be opened  :-\ Last time it happened it was a royal pain in the arse operating barriers on multi-storey car parks >:(

This time I will buy a kit including new runners etc assembled and ready to fit (not fit new cables to the old runners).

Does anyone have any experience of Shalahambra (Sharan/Galaxy/Alhambra) window regulators? can anyone recommend a particular make for the replacement?

Genuine appear to cost about £105, pattern £25-£30. If they are all the same crap design as the VAG original then I don't see any point in buying anything but the cheapest......

Can't say I've seen them check window operation when M.o.T. ing mine,so not sure it'd be a fail. What they do do where I take mine is have the drivers door window open in order to hold the controls for the brake rollers during that part of the test.

Alternatively, to be on the safe side, remove the wood. My kit car passes just fine with no side windows  :-X
